Hey everone i got a quick Qs im in cali and i have an RS with a cut-out and no muffler that is currently non-oped, when i goto have it smogged do i have to have a muffler to pass smog? My buddy said you dont need one to pass and his dad owns a shop so i would assume he knows what he is talking about so is he right or do i get to tell him he is a jack ***.

also when i car is non oped does it have to be test only smogged or am i good ?

im pretty sure from the cat-back, it doesnt matter. hope yoru cutout is after the cat or your in trouble.

not sure but i doubt you have to go to a test only station for being non op'd

Ya im not sure because i went to the CA dmv website and they said that u had to have a muffler but then they said you sound level just has to be below 95des. So im thinking my car isnt very loud with the muffler off and the cut out plugged. So i should be good

Ya the cutout is after the cat right before it goes over the axle thats were muffler tech puts them i guess.

Im still not sure about the non op test only thing because my buddys 89 iroc he bought it non oped and when he went to go have it reg it said he had to goto test only, but that might off been because of prior history .

also dose anyone know of a good smog shop around the sacramento area some place cheap and good .

it doesnt have to have a muffler but we can refuse to test it if you dont have a tailpipe. if its before the cat we can fail it. we send cars that are highly modifed to the refferee (specially the **** cars) we just dont want the hassle of trying to figure out whats legal and whats not, to time consuming, and as the saying goes time is money.
