Cooling system is fixed. I hard wired a switch into the stock cooling fan so that I have complete control over its operation. Car no longer overheats while driving but sitting still she will still get kinda warm with the fan on.

Front brakes rebuilt. Stock stuff with race pads.

Interior gutted. I have been removing the extra unused seat brakcets and seat belt brakcets from the car. Lots of time with a Cornwell 4 1/2 grinder.

As soon as I get the unused brackets out the car is going down to Hanksville Hotrads for the custom cage. I need to order up the Kirkey seat so that we can position the seat and cage properly so that I have a good driving position.

I really need to rebuild the front end. Under heavy braking she gets a little squirly and wants to follow the crown of the road. Probably going to do a stock rebuild and add a set of the J&M camber plates so that I can set yhe alignment where I want it.

Still searching for parts for the spec motor combo. Have not seen anything on craigslist lately.

Sounds like you should be using dual cooling fans if your not already, my 91 bird does. Also I have an engine oil cooler if your intrested and also should look into a factory PS cooler. What size tires are you running on the front that has alot to do with following the crown, anything over 255 will follow the crown badly. And also do you still want those stock L98 heads I have?

Yeah I still want the heads. My 3yr old has been sick all weekend long and I have been playing a game that I like to call "lets clean up puke".

The car is being built into a Camaro Mustang challenge car (cmc) that I will be racing in 07.

Spec tires are 255/50/16 Toyo Proxes RA1.

Rules call for either a spec engine ( 600 Holley (4776), Edelbrock performer cam and intake or stock TPI. We must use a 305 in the 3rd gen and the fox mustang must use the 302.

I have not decided on the spec engine or doing a TPI swap. I am pretty sure that I am going to run the spec carb set up and I can run the TPI heads on the car. They should flow better than the stock L03 heads and get me to my target HP goal.

Rules dictate stock motors and exhaust manifolds however you can swap 3rd gen parts from different models etc.

I also need a set of stock TPI or L69 exhaust manifolds. My understanding is that they flow better than the LO3 manifolds. I also want a dual snorkel air cleaner for the car.

HP is limited to 230 and TQ to 300. The more power you make the more you have to wiegh. I'm shooting for 220/280 as this would let me run a race weight of 3150.

The front end is all over the place and has 128k on it. I got the car from the original owner and nothing has ever been replaced on the front end.

The rules can be found at www.camaromustangchallenge.com

I've got 2 305 shortblocks that need to get out of my garage. One is the '86 that I first put in the car, it's all stock with around 170k miles on it. The cylinders are fine, the bearings are a little loose. It has X rods in it. I sold the heads 2 years ago.

The other is an '87 LB9 that was bored .040" over, looks like it got a little hot and scuffed the top of the bores a little, and there appear to be cracks in the lifter valley. The crank is .010" under and it and the bearings look like new.

A cheap build would be to use the '86 block and the crank/bearings from the '87. You could re-ring if you like, but compression was good on it.

I'd be glad to part with them for a pair of sun visors. . .

tires should not be causing the problem so your probably right on the front end needing a rebuild. As stated befor I have a factory engine oil cooler if your intrested. and I think I have a set of factory L98 exhaust manifolds laying around but may be a little rusty let me look and see if I can't find them. Let me know on the heads I'm leaving town for a week on wedensday so If you want we can hook up at the first of the year.

Check the front of the rad for gunk or a "film". It happen to me and made my car overheat, even with the fan on. Just a thought.

Also, if the car is squirly under hard braking, it may be the brake hoses. Mine was like that untill I change them. Just another thought.

Oh, yeah, I have a set of LB9 exhaust manifolds (same as L98, similar to L69) that would also be allowed to go for the visors, with or without the 305 blocks. . .

Good idea. The brake hoses are going to get changed to braided lines.

Sounds good. I'm pimping the wifes car today so I better grab a few rags so as to not make a mess in the trunk.
