Can someone please give me advice as to how I should launch my car for the maximum effect? My mods will be comming in the spring and I'm wanting to get some practice in.
Thanks

Depending on how bad your car spins.... you didn't state what kind of tire you'll be running, but I'm assuming slicks (or sticky DOT approved street tires) and I'm assuming you have a stock stall convertor. If so, Do a short burnout, no need to do a "John Force" burnout, unless you have gobs of horsepower. After you heat up the tires, do a quick dry hop to clean off the pebbles, then roll up until the pre-stage light comes on , then, with the holding the car w/ the brakes, stall it up enough to load up the suspension, but don't try to stall it as much as it will until the tires start spinning, just enough to load the chassis. Roll on up until the stage light comes on, and when you see the third yellow light come on, roll off the brake and stab it simultanously. If you have good hooking tires the car should leave great, if you're running ordinary street radials, you're probably gonna spin em off. Just remember this, don't assume that just because your tires hook up on the street, it will be the same on the strip. If a set of, let's say P245/50ZR16 Goodyear GSC's, spin a little on the street, your gonna fry 'em on a drag strip. Street tires, unless they're Drag radials, or DOT approved soft compounds, such as M/T Sportsman Pro's, ET Streets or comparable, just do not hook up on a drag strip. I hope this helps. Good Luck

if you have a car that grips really hard you may want to try flaring the convertor instead of bringing the rpm's all the way up. just bring the rpm's up to about 800-1000 at the line, then nail it full out when you leave. if your car hooks good this will cause the convertor to flash to a higher speed, thus bringing the car out a little further up the power band.
it doesn't work for every car, but i have had good success this way. it counts on the car hooking really hard to work.

Practice- Practice- Practice. Every car and driver will be different. Start out launching easy and push it harder each time until you find the point of no traction, then back off. Every track will be different too.
