Hi Guys,
Well I made my first trip to New Lebanon Valley Dragway, and my first run through the quarter mile with my car (see sig). My best run was a 16.619 @ 83.26 MPH. The 60' time was 2.438, I didn't detect too much wheelspin though, and my friends who were watching said the tires barely spun at all (I was basically launching it as I would on the street, definetly no more than about 1800 rpm, then flooring it) When corrected for elevation of ~1200 ft, the time is 16.41 @ 84.33 mph. Is this time reasonable guys? My shifting was solid once I got moving- I have a feeling my launch technique needs work. I was really expecting high 15's and in the high 80's for a trap speed. The car has 114000 miles on it, and I was shifting at 4500 rpm. I *think* the car has 2.73 gears (it turns 2000 rpm at ~60 mph). Let me know what you think of all this, and what I can do to improve the situation.
Oh, the timing was set to 5 or 6 BTDC @ 1000 rpm. And the track is in Eastern New York, temp. was about 60 degrees and sunny. Thanks in advance,
Steve

You definately need to work on the launch! that 60' foot time isn't too great. if you can cut that down to a solid 2.1x time that would probably get you where you want to be.
Dont quote me on this part but i think you have a bit more than 2.73's. i have the same setup as you only with 3.23 and 2000 is about 65 +/-.

I checked my RPO codes and i have 3.27 and my 60mph rpm is about 2000. try letting the motor wind up to 5000 (or whatever the redline is) before shifting. I know when i shift at 4500 instead of 5000 it makes about a .4 of a difference in my ET.

Thanks for the replies guys. So it looks like I need to work on my launch technique, for starters...I was kinda babying it cause the rear end has some weird vibrations at high speeds, and my brakes aren't the greatest either. But I'll get those fixed for next time at the track, and try bumping up my shift points a few hundred RPM and see where that lands me.

Hmmmmm.....that's really odd.
You've got a setup almost exactly like mine, and I'm running a 15.6 1/4 mile time, with a crappy launch. (with 3.27 gears, before my 3.70's)
Check my sig below.
By the way, I've got a fully loaded IROC. Your formula should be lighter and faster.
I do have only 80,000 miles on it though.
