Hey guys, I'm looking for a beater... probably a sprint, firefly, or a swift, something like that. Any suggestions?? Anything to stay away from?? how long do those little 3cyl go before they need the engine rebuilt?? I saw an '87 for sale for $1800Cnd, but I think I can talk em' down to $1500cdn. It has 110k km on it. Is that good?? any input on this would be great, thanks.

110k?
Well al i can say is stay away from anything ford, dodge and i hate to say it even GM if you want a small car with a 4/3 whanger, especially if it was made in the 80s. i hate to say this but in my humble opinion, any little econobox the big three makes will just plain suck. what i hate to say even more, again in my humble opinion, imports have the big three beat whan it comes to little gas saver cars.

I have a 1986 Chevy Sprint with 103,000 miles on it. All it needs is a new catalytic converter, it still gets 40 mpg. Each of the three cylinhders still push 135-136 psi. People laugh at me when I am getting in it though since I am 6'3" tall and 265 pounds. It's a good little car. I drive it to work every day.

If you want a true (cheap) beater go with a Hyundai Pony... best $200 you'll ever spend. Mine lasted 3 years & 40,000 Km before I got the Camaro

well after owning two of the cars you are talking about... I say yes the are a great little car for what they are designed for....
as far as rebuilds go... they can last up to near 250km+ my old firefly ran with 320km as still goes today. as for my honest opinion, go with a swift, they are a little more better built, which is why I ended up go with 1 as a second ride. and if you more ***** then the standard 3cyl(55hp) or the standard 4cyl(75) found in some metro's and swifts, you can get a 100hp in the Swift GT's and GTi's.

hope I've helped if you want more info feel free to E-mail me
