I've always been a huge fan of your car and I love everything you've done to it...Keep up the good work man!

Also, did you have to do any tuning when you put the HSR manifold on?

Thanks, but I'm fairly content with this car for now.

Oh yeah! When I slapped it on I dyno'd afterwards and was 10.0:1 AFR. I had to add tons of spark and pull quite a bit of fuel. Still nowhere near perfect driveabilitywise, but it's getting better slowly.

Re: 91 Trans Am Convertible

So the car tried to commit suicide. I posted another thread about it
here... very saddening.

Although good things have come from the carnage. I picked up a 5.3 GEN III motor out of a wrecked Silverado with only 46k on it for CHEAP.

And some interesting news I didn't know or ever hear about. The stock intake accordian tube fits perfectly onto the LS6 TB.

Re: 91 Trans Am Convertible

How much did you pay for your engine? I'm starting to think I'm going to go that route instead of getting a complete 4th gen car to get an LS1 out of. I was watching Horsepower TV this weekend and they got a 6.0L out of an 05 truck for $1200! I've driven my dad's work truck with the 6.0L in it (of course his is a 2000 so it has a throttle cable) and it is shitloads of fun and that would be penty of power to start off with in my car that weighs 3000lbs less!

I picked this up for $1k with harness and truck acc w/ 46k on it. I'd still lean towards getting a whole wrecked car if I could. I just don't have the space to tear one down. There are LOTS of little parts that add up. Bolts, mounts, gaskets, covers, acc drive, starter, sensors, etc.

No, she bought body colored coil covers for her 'vette and I stole her old ones. The manifold/TB/rails I bought.

Re: 91 Trans Am Convertible

Thanks. I've always admired your camaro. One of the nicest I've ever seen. I think because it's simple, and not gaudy/tacky.

Okay, I thought I was going to take more pictures today but was too caught up in wiring. Took me awhile to find the correct diagram and finally I just went to Alldata and printed out a schematic for my year harness. Then I got to cutting! Pulled out as much of the harness that I didn't need; all the emission, auto trans, 4x4 stuff.

The GFX are broken off on both front fenders. I need to get around to replacing them.

Everyone has an ls2 but me.

YUP...

Sorry I had to...

I must say your car is about damn pertect. everyone of the mods is tasteful and flows with the look of the car. "i wish I had mo' hands... I'd give that car fo' thumbs up!"

EDIT... man I really need to read to the end.... I am sorry about the "auto pilot" incident. It seems you are well on your way to bringing it back to life. Just think, now the broken gfx don't seem like a big deal! Sucks about the rebuilt title but... ehh oh well. Keep up the work and photos!

Little update; Motor is in an I've been daily driving it for a few months. It hasn't been "tuned" yet. Just codes deleted and such. This weekend I'll be going to a dyno day with my local car club. If I remember I'll post up dyno numbers.

You can see the exhaust poking out in front of the passenger side rear tire. I picked up an LT1 Camaro square tip I'm thinking of putting there. Good? Bad?

Re: 91 Trans Am Convertible

I finally got the car dyno'd this weekend. 285hp/316tq on the stock tune. On the way to Portland I got 28mpg @ 75mph, top down. Now I'm looking for a zo6 cam and need to finish the turbo header. I think I'm going to wait to do something bigger (cam/turbo) to have it tuned because I pulled down almost a solid 12:1 AFR all the way to redline. It was awesome!

I still have the turbo; keeping that for the LM7. The manifold is for sale if you want it! $450!

Man for awhile, your car has been one of my favorites on the site. I just found your thread about the runaway incident and I was really worried, then I noticed the date on that! Great to see that even after all that its still one of the nicest cars I know of. Keep up the great work!

They're actually stock. All 91-92 trans ams/GTAs got them. If you find a pair in good shape, GET THEM. They're rare and you can probably make your money back. I need to find a spare set just in case...

Re: 91 Trans Am Convertible

Those are original taillights for the 1991-1992 Trans AM and GTA. The base Firebird and Formula received different taillights.

Good luck finding a set that doesn't need work or is cheap. Because they only came on 1991-1992 Trans AM/GTAs, there is a smaller pool of them. On top of that, they have a delaminating issue. So a good set is hard to find, let alone cheap.

I cringe knowing that my car being a daily driver means they'll probably delaminate/haze soon. 170k and still going though! *knock on wood*

Re: 91 Trans Am Convertible

thanks for the quick response. I will prolly have some more questions as this is my first restoration/mod. I like the seats too. What did you say they were? I like the look, but think I would like something a little smaller on the back rest.

life is too short to not rock your hotrod daily. I drive my IROC and my '91 TA daily. I might get hit by a bus tomorrow, and if that happens I don't want to have lived my life with the hotrods in the garage. Think there will be thirdgens in Heaven??

Re: 91 Trans Am Convertible

what did you have to do to get those C6's to mount up. I found some nice ones, but dont know what all goes into making them fit right.

I run 2" spacers in the front and I have a fourthgen axle with a 1" spacer in the rear. If I didn't have the spacers in the rear I'd probably be running a 2.25-2.5" spacer in the rear. HTH!

you only have one outlet? I'd say nay, just cause the pipe you have there now isnt real obvious, an Lt1 tip would show alot more.. be kinda uneven imo. Either way though, sick *** car!

Really? I kind of think the LT1 tip would actually be less obvious. Shorter height and tucked tighter up to the body (if I sprayed it black of course). Realistically, I'll probably I'll keep this until I can redo the whole setup.

Thanks!

oh, if you spray it black, heck yeah go for it. Like you said lower profile etc. I just assumed you were gonna have it be chrome/polished

Re: 91 Trans Am Convertible

Thanks man. The car has been dead nuts reliable since the swap aside from a broken crank position connector but with some trial and error with a multimeter that was 'fairly' easy to diag. I really haven't done anything to the car since this thread other than an official rear seat delete kit I got for a 4thgen. With a full load at school and full time work I've just been driving it. Makes me happy every time I get behind the wheel.

I'll try and take some pictures of the battery mount in the back seat and 4thgen rear seat delete someday soon.

Edit; and HOLY CRAP @ 10k views on this thread! I didn't know so many were interested in my POS!
