I am about to clean the MAF. The direction say that I have to spray the wires and then clean them off. If this is the proper way to do this, then I need to take off the screen. Now I know that most of ya'll have taken off the screens, but with my luck I will screw up the expensive piece of equipment with out guidance. So do I need to take off the screens, if so let me know, also, what benefits are there to taking them off?

 

I was not aware that you're supposed to actually clean the MAF. Now, I could be wrong, but I would err on the side of NOT cleaning it until you know for sure. If I'm wrong, all you're out is a little time.

....plus, removing the screens isn't really the best idea. It's one of those free mods that everyone does, but there's no evidence showing it actually helps anything, and lots of people feel it only hurts. If I'm not mistaken, the screens are designed to help smooth out airflow, NOT to protect the wire. Afterall, they ARE downstream from the airfilters. ...again, I'd err on the side of caution, and make sure that YOU are sure before you do anything.

 

u take mass air flow cleaner nothing else

and spray through the screens and spray on the wire


do not!!!! remove the screens and touch the wire

u will kill/ ruin the sensor



just spray and let it dry in a few seconds

 

I did this with my 300zx.

Removed MAF, looked inside and on the screens....BLACK!

I bought some CRC Maf Cleaner, sprayed it like a mother****er, both front and back. Let sit for 5minutes one way, then flip around and let sit again, to ensure no liquid is in the MAF (the cleaner pretty much evaporates right after its landed so it shouldnt take to long).

After that the MAF was a clean gray again..YAY! But I DID NOT notice any smoother idle or power benefits. But its clean now...haha.

It will help! Just might not be noticeable.
