I got this idea in class today and came home and photo shopped them. I was going to just take my clear coat off the wheels and reclear them but i think painting them like this would be cool. Any suiggestion would be appreciated

I would paint them black like the 2nd picture you have. Here is how i did mine, have fun sanding and polishing.

SMKNTRS 08-29-2006 07:11 PM

wow are those nice. you got a post or anything saying how you got them that nice

luisote 08-29-2006 07:20 PM

the second option is the best one, but if u want something particular paint'em black and just polish the lip

camarokev400 08-29-2006 07:25 PM

i just followed a thread off here somewhere, do a search for polishing wheels, start out by stripping the clear and then start sanding your *** off, better winter project than summer. Start out aggressive on the sandpaper and work your way to fine grit.

For a black car, I think option #1 is really nice. it looks really kick butt. I painted my car silver and am looking for some ideas as well.

CityStarz 08-29-2006 09:35 PM

dude I love the 1st pic

I see you're in cranberry too, I'm down around bridgeville

SMKNTRS 08-29-2006 09:41 PM

I like the all black ones too, gives it a modern aftermarket look. i think the second pics makes them look like the vette double spokes in a way.

I found the tech article on refinishing them. Im gonna definetly make it a winter project.

Where's bridgeville? I'm not too familiar with pa

CityStarz 08-29-2006 09:46 PM

So i finally got around to painting one of my extra wheels and heres what i came out with.. i'm pretty happy with it, just have to figure out what i wanna do with the centers.

92RS(real slow) 03-10-2007 09:13 PM

looking good I would say just paint the center caps black too:nod:

1989formula355 03-10-2007 11:15 PM

i'm partial to all black

InfernalVortex 03-10-2007 11:26 PM

Im not really a fan of black wheels... They just dont contrast right with the tires or brakes (unless you've got HUGE rotors) and even then, I just dont think it has a bold enough appearance.

My favorite wheels are just the machined, brushed aluminum look. I'd have white wheels on my car before black wheels.

I wish I could find some wheels like THAT...

Tape up the "camaro" nut in the middle and paint the outer ring black, I did it (in graphite) on my old beater...

not a fan of painted wheels

I love the way the polished ones look, like you have, but I'm cheap and lazy, so the $3 spray paint and sitting on the couch with masking tape suited me better than hours and hours of elbow grease or a buttload of cash for polishing. :)

I have an extra center cap cause this wheel is cracked so i decided to paint it all black. I like how it came out but now im wondering what it might of looked like if i did tape up the chrome too. I'm pretty happy with the results just wish i could smooth out the plastic "camaro" piece.

mike_c 03-14-2007 07:54 PM

It may be too late, but I like the rims in the middle pic the best.

hot92RS 03-14-2007 08:47 PM

I like the first picture best. it really changes the look of your car. My rs is painted silver and I'll be changing my wheels to look like that. Very inexpensive way of drastically changing the way the car looks. I will be posting pictures afterwards, may take a couple of weeks.

If you have to have an accent color, I'd say go with that color, like if you have stripes. Like the crosslace wheels on my wife's car. We had the gold section painted yellow to match her stripes.https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...d-untitled.jpg

CamarosRUS 03-15-2007 10:59 AM

Black with a polished lip...sexy. You could even go with a lot of tedious work and polish the two lines on each spoke but I don't think it would be worth it.

As far as the centers take another one and tape off the Chrome part (just painting the 'outsid' of the center cap black) and see which ones look best.

S-10's also have center caps that will fit these wheels and their center caps are completely flat (no big 'nut' sticking out of the center), if you were interested.

Demon355 03-15-2007 12:00 PM

I like the all black look, good job!

robertfrank 03-15-2007 03:01 PM

I like the all black but I would cover up the grooves and leave them cast.I think that would've set them off better.

Quick6 03-15-2007 10:01 PM

lol I like how your rims grew 2 inches in diameter in the first pic! :)

That's gorgeous!

RSFreak 03-19-2007 03:23 AM

I have the same wheels on my RS and have always thought they look more aggressive without the center cap. Just paint the cavity in the center black too and some shiney chrome lug nuts will set it off nicely!

Sinister Z 03-19-2007 09:28 AM

I voted for pic #2...I think that they look the best on your car!

Camaro355Z28 03-19-2007 09:52 AM

yeah I'd have to go with #2 also, just has a cool clean look to them and could draw more attention to your wheels than all black would. In addition, if you didn't like the way that style turns out you could just paint the rest all black. Anyone try anything with the Z28 wheels? I'm interested in some ideas along these lines...

rebel1222 03-19-2007 01:10 PM

I think the far right picture looks the best. There's already enough black on your car. Your car looks great by the way. I think painting the wheels black would just be too much black.

Stephen 03-19-2007 01:24 PM

How about the opposite of the second pic? One the 3 ribs of the spokes, black out the outer two on each spoke, leaving the inner one silver. It would look like 5 real thin spokes.
