Removing Carpet, Found Crack...

Well as the title says, I was taking the carpet out of the back half of the car in preparation to fix any rust I may find and start sound deadening and I found this :

It's along the weld, which looks more like glue... but is there a way to fix this? Not that it'll rust, not now that I baby her. But would like to take care of it while I have it open like this. Thanks!

Have you removed that caulking material.I dont think your floorboard is cracked though, but just to be sure remove that stuff. If you know its not cracked then just apply some new sealant.Thats all that stuff is to seal the inside form the outside. Also have you checked from the outside. In the wheel well.If its the metal/weld the crack will show on the other side.Looks worse than it is, im guessing.

I have been thinking about a rear shock tower brace

let us know if there is any cracking after removing the seam sealer

:lmao:That made my day, Iron Duke ... freakin' hilarious ... cause I was thinking the same thing. I just knew this dude found a rock from the 80's. LOL.

Don't want to get off topic, but a friend of mine in college found a bag of weed in a recliner he got from the Salvation Army Store.

Dude, that crack shouldn't be hard to fix.

Thanks for the input everyone! I didn't even realize the alternative meaning of the title lol Guess it made ya look :p

I had no idea they bothered about caulking the welds on the inside, now that I know it's not an indication of something major I won't fret much about it hehe!

I did find a business card, the keytag from the used car dealer I got it from, and two pennies. One 1986 and one 1987, I'll be putting those back under the seat when I reassemble :)

I don't think it's a crack, that small piece is spot welded in and sealed with seam sealer. My guess is the seam sealer has separated from the sheet metal. They did an article on this area in GM High-Tech Performance.
