Mysterious engine bay plate
 

Hi guys! I was referred here from the Firebirdnation boards. I dont own a 3rd gen f-body but a good friend of mine does. I own a 4th gen, here:

The reason I am here is to try to discover what this engine bay plate means, pics below, the one over the "Edelbrock" decal:

I have never found the answer to what it means. I have seen it in various others 3rd gens both Camaros and Firebirds. I have even seen some without it. I was told it was the body id plate which obviously its not.

Anyone knows what it is?
