What is this id tag for ?
I just want to figure out what this tag is for under my air box on my 89 iroc.

It's not really anything. Some believe it to be a job sequence number, but it has been shown not to be. It was an identification tag used by the factory during the build. It has no meaning to us.

Here's the tag on my '87 IROC (I don't know the DOM off the top of my head). It appears to be covering up some other stamped ID.

I've always wondered about that tag..
My 1990 GTA is a Canadian export car built in Van Nuys.. It doesn't have a tag there.. Looking carefully at the original paint around the holes, it appears there was never anything mounted there.

Mine was assembled at the Norwood plant
My 88 is a van nuys built car for canadian export and it does have the tag

I think It just bothers me because it has to have a reason for being there . I am just trying to figure out the exact reason . Why else would they underline the first digits unless it has a particular meaning . Mine is a van nuys car as well .

That is the schedule / job number assigned to all 3rd gen's built ... as far as I know all Van Nuys built cars had them.
You will find the same number on all the individual work sheets, the build sheet and anything else related to the car.
They are in sqeuence as far as I understand but as they are for all 3rd gen's built looking at just these numbers for the Firebird line would have gaps where Camaro's came down the line ...
I'm tracking some of these numbers for the 1989 Turbo Trans Am build and they are all in sequence and show up on any factory documentation related tot hat same VIN as well.

My '88 Van Nuys GTA doesn't have one...it doesn't look like there was ever anything there. Odd...
