Installing new pin and bushings in door hinge How do I get the darned door spring out of the way? How have other people on this board handled this task before? I tried but couldn't get it to budge even slightly. Those are a big PITA! I've seen a tool designed for that. The body shop next door has one. Its just a real skinny spring compressor. ------------------ ASE Mechanic/Machinist/Smog Tech 1999 NBM Trans Am 1986 Chevy 3/4 ton pick up 1981 corvette 1995 Kawi ZX6R GO #3 |
Is the spring fastened to the door in any way or just wedged in there? I wouldn't mind doing away with that stupid friggin' thing just so that the door would open and close properly? |
They are just wedged in there. You can get it out with a pry bar...just look out, they come out in a hurry https://www.thirdgen.org/messageforum3/eek.gif ------------------ ASE Mechanic/Machinist/Smog Tech 1999 NBM Trans Am 1986 Chevy 3/4 ton pick up 1981 corvette 1995 Kawi ZX6R GO #3 |
My friend and I had to replace the top hinge in my car, and the pin & bushings in the lower hinge, we ended up using a pair of duckbilled vise-grips that we ground one side down just thin enough to fit in between the spring as wide as we could to clamp down and take it out, it still needed some help with a screwdriver though, but didn't have near as much spring while it was clamped in the vise grips. Maybe that'll give you an idea, take care now. |
