Re: my t tops weather stripping yeah mine leak, if you watch the video i show where they leak. are these the same thing that 1aauto.com sells? or are those better?? and is this what came with the car factory?? ive never changed them and this is how they were when i bought the car back in december. |
Re: my t tops weather stripping OER is not GM original. You can still get GM but they a bit more expensive. 1A sells original GM and they also sell Metro. I used Soffseal. I thought they worked fine. People also say the same about Metro. There are also some who say to stick with GM. IMO you can't go wrong with Metro, Soffseal, and the GM originals. Proper installation is the key. Make sure you clean all the old gasket cement. Reseal the t top bar. Use plenty of adhesive in the right spots. The Metro and Soffseal are a little thicker then the originals so you will have to adjust your door glass. |
Re: my t tops weather stripping I'd change them, seeing as you say they leak. And while you're at it, do some clean up and repair if you find some rust. Mine don't leak (and today I went thru a rainstorm!), and it's really nice to be nice and dry.. Stone |
Re: my t tops weather stripping anyone got a good how to topic or pics of how i should lay the adhesive the right way?? so they dont leak anymore |

Re: my t tops weather stripping Not sure. Try getting in contact with them and ask them what brand they carry. |
Re: my t tops weather stripping emailed them and they say it varys what brand is sent because of how close the buyer is to what warehouse they ship from so they didnt help me much lol. but i did find some metros on ebay for 150 that i bought so hope they help the problem |
Re: my t tops weather stripping I changed mine 2 times with the Soft Seal ones. 1st time because my stock ones were leaking, weather cracked, and the metal T top bar was rusted out in 1 corner. So I got a new t top bar, fixed the rust, installed new weather stripping. 2nd time was because I repainted my car. lol...so I learned how to do it 2 times. Biggest thing is to check for rust under that t top bar if you decide to change it out. I think there are 6 to 8 screws that hold it down. It's worth it to check it out. |
Re: my t tops weather stripping The best thing I can say to do with the existing weatherstripping is to clean it and treat it so it doesn't crack. The reason you have leaks is because the weatherstripping isn't sealed to the body. In the beginning of your video, you pulled the WS from the body and the you can see the weatherstripping adhesive that has aged and gotten hard then cracked. Buy the 3M windshield adhesive caulk, roll it out thinner and apply it between the WS and the body. It remains soft and pliable, but will seal this area. Use as much as you need to seal and you should be ok. If that doesn't stop your leaks, then the WS you have is crap. It looks good and should be working, but if it isn't, then they are crap even when new. |
