86 T/A How to repair ground effect mounting studs?

Some of the studs snapped when attempting to get the nuts off the ground effects when disassembling my T/A. Are there any suggestions of good ways to fix them? Not sure if drilling out the old ones and possibly threading in some new studs would hold or not if some two-part epoxy was used.

Suggestions?

on my '84 we ended up fabricating new brackets as most of the threaded studs snapped during removal. not sure if the '86 mounting brackets are the same. here's the post in my build thread:

You can drill out the old stud and weld in another, or drill out the old one, tap the hole and screw in a bolt, or just put a bolt in and use a retaining clip to hold the bolt in the hole so it doesn't fall out when you mount it, some wire will work to hold it in too

battmann, first off, very nice build.

I should probably clarify that the studs that broke aren't the studs on the metal brackets that hold the smaller pieces on. Rather, these are the studs that are mounted in the door finishing effects. These are almost like a plastic type material and seem to just be pressed into the the piece that mounts to the door. I believe you actually buy re-pops of all the metal brackets, and I could make those myself to be honest.

Thanks for the input so far.

Need a picture, but you might be able to buy the plastic stuff from clipsandfasteners.com

You can remove all the studs and replace them with a 1/4-20x 1 1/5" in length.simply remove the studs, run a 1/4-20 tap in the hole to clean it up a little.then use a 2 part panel bonding adhesive ( such as lord fusor's 208B panel bonding adhesive or equivalent) to "glue" the bolts into there new home. You can then cut the head of the bolt off making it a "stud". Very simple,no need to go buy some aftermarket crap thats not going to fit without more work...
