emergency brake

I just got back from the mechanic :D and the engines beautiful.

But he could not fix the e brake,
he said he couldn't find the part, but that he didn't think to check yearone,

but when I go to check, i don't know what i'm looking for :(

he said its no cable problem at all, it even looks like the owner before me had put in new cables,

that it must be a ratchet or clank problem?

can anyone help me out in finding the part?

Re: emergency brake

I have check yearone and I have found this,

http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/f...300&cat=G&trk=

I recognize the ratchet mechanism, I remember the mechanic saying that,

but what about the grip? is that something I would need to? or is the grip the lever? which I doubt.

The grip is the leather piece that covers the lever. Transfer your current one to the new piece.

also, I looked around,
but I didn't see any thread about this,

I looked for a thread that would have a walkthrough or a pic by pic walkthrough, was there one? or did I miss it

Re: emergency brake

Posting year, make, and model is helpful for those answering questions. The following is for 82-89 cars:

1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
2. Remove the adjusting nut at the equalizer (mounted in the tunnel above the drive shaft) and remove the front cable from the equalizer and bracket.
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Remove the upper console and lower console rear screws. Lift the rear of the lower console to gain access to the parking brake control.
5. Remove the pin and retainer from the control assembly and front cable.
6. Remove the cable and casing from the control assembly and bracket and remove the cable and grommet from the vehicle. Remove the parking brake lever mounting bolts and remove the assembly.
7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Adjust the parking brake.

BTW, I think there's a certain fear when an owner starts working on his own car, but doing your own work is incredibly satisfying. That said, the purchase of a shop manual or a Chilton's will provide useful guidance.

Re: emergency brake

90-92

1. Remove the carpet finish molding.
2. Remove the console assembly.
3. With the parking brake lever in the down position, rotate the arm toward the front of the vehicle until a 3mm metal pen can be inserted into the hole. Insert the metal pin into the hole, locking out the self adjuster.
4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
5. Disconnect the rear cables from the equalizer.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Remove the barrel-shaped button from the adjuster track.
8. Remove the parking brake lever mounting bolts.
9. Remove the front cable and casing from the control assembly using a fabricated parking brake cable retainer compressor tool.
10. Install is the reverse of the removal procedure. Cycle the lever to set the parking lever and cables in their proper location.

Automatic: There is a small "staple" shaped clip that needs to be pulled out with a flat headed screwdriver. It is on the front of the shift handle, after removed, just pull the knob up and off.

Manual: Unscrew it.

Re: emergency brake

one more problem to this old thread :/
I seem to have ordered the wrong part,
I ordered the ratchet mech. for the 82 to 88,
is there anyway at all to get it to fit or work?
