Need new BAER Brake rotors...ideas?

1 Attachment(s)
OK I installed these rotors on my 87 about ten years ago. They now have lots of small cracks in them around the drilled holes...they are 12 inches in diameter....the pads it takes are for 95 or 96 corvettes....now i'd love to just call Baer and have them send me new rotors, but last time i checked they wanted $177 a piece- and the rotors were made in china.... can anybody suggest a replacement rotor that will work in place of these? i don't need them to be cross drilled....i won't do that again. Thanks pat

As long as the cracks do not go to the inner or outer edge of the rotor they are ok and the holes are doing their job.
I have a few of these rotors and I cant quite tell which these are?
Are these front or rear rotors?

These are fronts...I had read about the cracks...and i believe they are probably ok...but i wanted to get them turned and the machine shop said "no these are bad".....so i'm tempted to go buy a 96 corvette rotor and match it up...my local parts store is pretty good about taking stuff back!

Don't have them turned, have them ground on a flywheel grinder.. Takes off less material.
The normal vet rotor is 12" and then there is a HD 13"

I was looking at 96 vette rotors on Rock auto...they sure look like my rotors...i'm going to go buy one just to see....

I'd prolly go to a local parts store and match them up b4 I ordered them without knowing 4sure !

Looks like the 12 inch rotors used on vettes were .86 inch thick..the Baer ones are 1.1....so unless i find out there is another rotor to replace these i'll be buying new ones for $177 a piece.....

I used to have Dutch's personal cell number from Baer or I would call and ask him what they cam from 4 ya.

I called there today. I guess originally they bought stock corvette 13 inch rotors which were 1.1 inches thick, then they machined them down....now they just get 12 inch ones cast at 1.1...so they are a custom size that I don't think i'll find elsewhere...but hey i can look!

If you knew where to get a cheap rotor and a cheap machinist......

Well i gave up looking and bought a pair of new Baer rotors...they are just like a 96 corvette rotor, but they are 1.1 inch in width...coincidentally i needed to change the rotors on the front of our 2008 CTS . The CTS has the optional bigger brakes....take a look at the rotors on that thing! they make my camaro rotors look small....i wonder if anybody has put these on a third gen?

I'm not so sure about those little baby rotors in your picture, but I'm certain no one has tried the larger CTS-V rotors.

OK the Brembo's win! My original goal was to get the largest rotor and brakes that would still work wth the original rims....so now i have 8 IROC rims...if i went any bigger I'd need to go get new rims....by the way did those brembo rotors work with the stock spindles?

Modified stock spindles and some modification to the caliper itself.

Re: Need new BAER Brake rotors...ideas?

were the spindles modified as Baer does? so that a 96 c4 rotor willl work on it? I'm just hinking about what i'd like to do the next time the rotors go bad...

I will not pretend to know how Baer modifies their spindles. Do you have a picture?

A C4 HD rotor will not work with these calipers for two reasons. The pad height is taller than the friction surface of the rotor. And the rotor is simply much too small. There will be no way to make a strong caliper bracket with this configuration.
