87 9 bolt drivers side caliper question hey guys, forgive me if this topic is posted elsewhere... ive got a 9 bolt out of an 87 trans am with the cast iron calipers going into an 87 camaro with the 10 bolt... on the drivers side i believe there is a hard line all the way to the caliper, which threads in to a banjo bolt block. just mocking this thing up in hand, when i seat the banjo bolt into the block, with a washer on each end, and look through the brake line fitting hole, the hole in the banjo bolt is no where lined up with the fitting hole. it doesn't seem to me like the copper washers will crush down enough to where all the holes will line up. if i remove the washers then the hole is visible but still off a little bit. am i over thinking this? i checked the original banjo bolt as well and it is the same as the new one. attaching some pictures so hopefully the question will make more sense. one is with a washer and one is without. basically is this correct or do i have the wrong bolt for some reason? |
Re: 87 9 bolt drivers side caliper question 2 Attachment(s) here are the pics. first is with a washer and second is without |
Re: 87 9 bolt drivers side caliper question The holes do not need to line up, the bolt is necked down under the head and allows fluid to flow around it to the hole. That new bolt looks way too short though, I would use the old ones |
Re: 87 9 bolt drivers side caliper question Thanx scooter, actually answered my own question shortly after posting this...Once I realized the "taper" in the bolt I went ahead and gave it a go...And yes I did use the longer bolt. Got fluid to the bleeder so everything is good. Thanks again though. Helps having a place to ask questions  |
Re: 87 9 bolt drivers side caliper question Where did you find those banjo bolt blocks? I cant find them anywhere online |
Re: 87 9 bolt drivers side caliper question I just cleaned up and reused my originals. But if you google "Banjo bolt block" a couple things come up http://www.classicchevy.com/chevy-br...iABEgJm8_D_BwE |
