Holley 4165 Bracket question
 

hello everybody,

I am currently in the process of building my engine and I picked up a holley carb from my teacher for a good price. Being a 4165 (6210-3) carb, I was wondering if I could use the 20-121 700 r4 kickdown bracket and the 20-95 for the throttle (recommended for 4150/4160)

I'm putting the same carb on my Camaro, but hadn't gotten to that point yet. Comparing my 6210-3 to my 4150, it looks like they will work. The throttle arms are identical, so there shouldn't be a problem with the 20-121.

The distance from the mount bolt to the throttle arm also appears to be the same, so the 20-95 should work. The only issue is the 4150 base has a hole in front of the mount bolt hole for the tab to fit into, and the 6210-3 base doesn't have such a hole. You'll have to drill a hole for it. I'm going to be rebuilding mine, so that will be a good opportunity to do that. Although, I'm not sure yet whether you need that bracket if you've got the stock set-up. Maybe, to keep the orientations correct between cables & carb.

You posted right after I had placed an order with Summit. Rats! I was trying to think if I needed anything else, and didn't think of that. Guess I'll look for them locally. Don't want to pay another $10.95 order fee.

Curious if you've figured out what you're going to do about a choke. My intake doesn't have the boss to mount a divorced-style thermostat. I'll probably end up running a manual cable.

well i dont think i will be running a choke now, but if i really need it i will get an electric choke kit. Hopefully they make electric choke kits for these carbs

Here are some pics of my carb.

I just put a 4165 on my 85. I took the old ccc qjet to the speed shop for comparison. I matched the holley studs. I attatched the throttle and TV cable. I did not hook up the cruise. very simple. I am sorry that i threw away the empty boxes w part numbers. The carb sits on B&M 144 supercharger. The divorced metal coil choke with work with this setup - I just have to make a longer arm. Looks like your carb is missing the accelerator pumps. The rear one is 50cc.

I haven't looked hard, but an electric choke isn't as simple as it is on q-jets, universal Holleys, or Edelbrocks. The divorced style needs some place for the thermostat to mount. Non-EGR intakes typically have something that will work.

I suppose a bracket could be fabricated to mount the divorced thermostat.

It is missing Idle mixture screws, accelerator pumps and a vac fitting off the metering block. Did you take them off or didn't it come with them?

It's 2-corner idle - no adjustment in the secondaries.

The driver's side (U.S.) primary adjust is mostly hidden by the throttle arm, but it looks like the idle mixture screw is in there.

It just confused me coz there are holes for them, Is that normal?

Yep. Cast in but not drilled & tapped.

Primary & secondary metering blocks are the same casting, made into one or the other during final machining. Saves money that way, don't you know.

yeah i am missing the accelerator pumps, for both primary and secondary.

I will be getting them from my teacher as soon as he parts his carb out for me.

I will be running a non-egr intake, so how would you recommend running the divorced style choke?

Does anyone have any recommendations on which throttle and kickdown brackets to use with the 4165 carb?

As stated earlier, the secondary accelerator pump is 50cc. The "normal" pump size is 30cc.

Some non-EGR intakes have a pad to mount a choke thermostat. If yours have it, you can either get a manual thermostat (uses heat from the crossover to open), or an electric conversion thermostat (the factory never made a divorced electric choke, but they are available from the aftermarket).

Just to add my 2 cents, your worried about chokes and what not but the butterfly looks as if it's gone as well, dont think your gonna have to worry about a choke.
