Which method do you use?
 

I'm curious to know what kind of meter/method that people use to get their A/F mix correct. I'm kinda new to the bigger motor scene, even though I've put together a bunch of smaller ones. Do most of you just read the plugs or do ya buy the o2 sensor and meter? I'm going totally old school and just woul dlike to know everybody's opinion on the different ways and the pros and cons of each...

Most people use a vacuum gauge for the idle mixture. Plug reading and timed acceleration is the traditional way to read the WOT mixture, but wideband O2 sensors are getting more popular.

i don't bother with anything but a wideband, new fuel requirements for emissions screws up the coloring on plugs. I can fully tune a carb from idle to cruise to WOT in such a shorter amount of time with a wideband, and max HP runs at the track for slight wot tuning that anything else is just pissing in the wind for how cheap a wideband setup is these days. Those cheap $50 a/f guages that use a standard 02 sensor are not accurate for what you're trying to do as they won't give scientific numbers.

I don't go to the track, but I do want the best running car I can make. What's a good company/brand for the wideband setup?

I think Innovate Motorsports is about the cheapest right now, apart from the Summit-branded version.

Innovate LM-1 was $180 I think.
I just purchased the summit kit for $240, comes with a nice little analog gauge as well.
