edelbrock 1406 rich in the secondaries ok so i am running an edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb on my 350. the primaries are fine, but it is rich on the secondaries. i play with the throttle under the hood and when i open it up to the secondaries it spits fuel out of the top. like it is getting too much fuel. also some black smoke comes out from the exhaust. i don't know if i have the stock jets in there or not. it has been awhile since i looked. what would you guys recomend? buying a calibration kit and put the stock ones in? any help would be nice. |
Re: edelbrock 1406 rich in the secondaries Probably not a valid test. Snapping open the secondaries (with no accelerator pump on the secondary side) at idle with no load doesn't really similate what happens when you nail it in gear under load. Secondaries in the Edlebrock only have jets- no rods (only has rods on the primary side, similar to a QJet). |
Re: edelbrock 1406 rich in the secondaries without knowing which jets are in there, it would be hard to guess at one to replace it with. For all you know, it could be a smaller jet than stock, so by installing a stockjet you would be creating an even richer condition. If the take the jets out, they have numbers on them, 3 digits. With that you can grab a manual, or visit their website and figure out what you have and go from there |
Re: edelbrock 1406 rich in the secondaries Free revving is telling you nothing. The enrichment you'll get on the secondaries is for pulling under heavy load. |

Re: edelbrock 1406 rich in the secondaries Yes. You may end up ripping the paper top gasket, so order a kit and have it ready so you don't strand yourself. The gasket is super thin and tends to get torn taking the top plate off. |
Re: edelbrock 1406 rich in the secondaries ok thanks, i am going to order those now. |
Re: edelbrock 1406 rich in the secondaries For what its worth, I'd very much doubt the possiblity of the 1406 being too rich on the secondaries in stock tune. I went from stock .092 jet in the secondaries to a .101 with my mild 305, and its still on the lean side. Who knows whats been put in there, but with you're setup, stock jets are going to be very lean... |
Re: edelbrock 1406 rich in the secondaries i will pull it open this weekend and see whats in there |
Re: edelbrock 1406 rich in the secondaries Get a Holley................ LOL J/K I have not messed with edeljunk carbs since the 80's so I cannot tell you. |
