305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker just a quick question.. would i just need to add a fuel pressure regulator to drop the fuel pressure down for the carb or do i have to go all out and change the pump in the tank. the pump is only about a year old and i dont feel like dropping the tank again haha. |
You need a return-style regulator such as the Mallory 4309. The standard $25 dead-head reg will kill the pump. |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker okay so i just need to get that regulator and hook the return line up to it? sounds easy enough :-D |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker dorman sells lne kits to convert the stock lines to 3/8 compression fittings..the stock lines are a unique gm fitting.if you need pics let me know, you will also need to wire a 12v+ ignition on wire to the green/white wire to the fuel pump relay of it will shut off after 3 sec. just finished mine and glad to help with any other issues...good luck Bizzman1 |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker do you have a part number for the dorman conversion?? pictures would help a lot also. :-D thank you for your help. |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker lol..i just sent you a message buzz man then read this... i also am interested in the part number, and any info on the wiring for the fuel pump relay. so i know i get it done right... i've got about a billion wires to sort though >.< |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker 3 Attachment(s) the dorman numbers are 800153 for the supply and i think 800151 for the return but i was able to use a piece of the old return line for that. thefuel pump will require a 12v+ ignition on power source wired to the green/white wire going into the fuel pump relay. cut this wire a few inches from the relay and connect it to the ignition on power supply and thats it. hopefully pics will help...be patient as it took a lot of hours to get the conversion right. good luck Buzzman1 |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker i used the mallory afpr you can see in buzzmans pic used the stock feed and return line there and it worked great all i did and the 383 is runnin strong |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker yeah..I hate dropping the gas tank. mine works great ...do you get a little flucuation in pressure like 5-6 or is yours steady? Buzzman1 |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker it bounces a little bit but not too bad the bowls stay full so it didnt make it hard to tune or ne thing like that |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker i havent wired my fuel pump like you say, is that why it will only run for a few seconds but never has any fuel pressure? |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker sounds like you guys know what ur doin haha. i ordered the regulator and dorman parts today. they should be at the store tomorrow when i go into work :-D |

Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker yes to the fuel pressure , if you don't wire the green/white wire to 12v+ ignition on the pump will only run for like 3 secs and then no pressure. Buzzman1 |
Re: 305 tbi to carbed 383 stroker you can do it the way i tried to i was gunna use the relay like a primer witch is the only time the compouter actully runs the fuel pump then i was goin off the oil pump switch so that any time it had more than 5 psi it would run the fuel pump like it would stock only problem there was i must have cooked the oil pressure switch cause after breakin in the cam it stated to stall on me so i just wired it up like stated above some food for thought if interested zig |
