Rochester carb question I have the stock Rochester carb that came off of my 84 Camaro. It needs to be rebuilt and a kit costs $20. But I have heard that changing the Rods and Hangers is also a good thing to do. Is the 84 Rochester carb a computer controlled carb or is it the old style? And where can I get the Rods and Hangers. BTW the carb is now on a 383. |
Just looking at the carb from the front, if you see 2 electric plugs, on on the top left with two wires (Mixture Control solenoid plug)and one in the front right with three wires (Throttle Postion Sensor plug) then it IS a computer contolled carb. Anyway, any STOCK 84 Rochester carb was computer controlled. You can get the rods and hangers from a local GM dealership. I am not sure, but you may also be able to get them from a place like AutoZone or Pep Boys. |

So what kind of rods and hangers do I get? I see you people talking about "DR" Rods and "B" hangers. Are those a good set for the My Rochester carb? |
My bad, Five7Kid, you are 100% correct. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.;) |
I'm using a B hanger & DR rods with my extensive mods, and it runs great. But, I'm at altitude, so at a lower elevation I might need more. The DR's are pretty decent rods - mine came with an Edelbrock q-jet, but I hear they're available from Summit as well. I got my hangers and some other rods from these guys http://www.carbs.net/rodshang.asp . |
