High idle sticking open

Hello.

Recently changed my alternator and have had issues with the car idling high. I was trying to adjust the idle speed earlier and noticed the kick down for the high idle was sticking open every time the gas was touched. Choke seemed a little open while cold.

The little lever needed a little force to pull back not really loose like it should be. I'm thinking I need to adjust the choke first and see where it takes me from there? I wanted to know what your thoughts were.

2BBl. Rochester carb.

I had a similar problem with my carb. Check your choke thermostat. I had a broken choke thermostat and as soon as I replaced it, my high idle issue was solved. Definitely check your choke thermostat. Good luck!

And make sure you're even getting a full 12V to the choke through the choke heater wire (probe it while it's hooked up and running). Lots of times the choke is fine but the power wire supplying voltage to it no workie no mo.
