Tomorrow pending time frames, I'll try to get some pics taken of mine. I've seen a few guys running the 31x19 on here and imo they've all looked like crap with these big goofy looking brackets sticking up 2" over the old radiator support. For a "quick" install it'll work, but it shows the craftsman ship too if you know what I mean. Not bad mouthing since alot of guys dont have the facility, know how, or tools to work with to do it better.

It takes some fabrication, but mine actually sits a little lower than the stock radiator and further forward as well. One of those things if it was'nt pointed out, most would over look it as a stock radiator. The inner pass side frame rail had to be "massaged" with some heat and a hammer, the lower radiator support had to be cut out and dropped approximately 3" and new metal welded on so i could have the needed drop and still be able to weld it back into the car. I was'nt able to find any hoses that would bolt right up after 2hrs in 2 of the bigger parts stores so I had to cheese out on that and go with the accordian/flexible style radiator hoses. The lower neck on the radiator and the new lower location sitting lower makes it a tight transition for the radiator hose to come off the lower neck and bend towards the water pump. I ended up using a peice of factory hose wrap-looks like gaint sized black wire loom/conveluted tubing to wrap around the lower radiator hose where it hits the idler arm bracket bolts.

I've got a busy day, but if I remember to throw the camera in the truck I'll get you some pics. With a little work it will fit and appear factory. Cooling is ridiculious. Oh, still using the factory dual fan set-up too.

Here's a few shots, they're not "bolt in" by any means but they will work and definately worth the effort!!!

Excuse the mess, did an oil change this morning and still waiting for my overnight part from Jegs to fix the water inlet problem-part where the radiator caps screws onto the unit on the intake developed a hair line crack and every time I 'd shut the car down water sould seep out around the filler neck:( New one is fully welded around the outside of the filler neck....which it should've been in the first place!!!

Last one from the actual side so you can see the clearance between the water pump and the fans...alot more than Iever had with the stock radiator.

John: I like the aluminum bracket for the radiator... I just put mine in and used the existing upper brackets to see how much this puppy would cool my 505... I'm fixing to do the same like you did.

It's the big 31"x19" 155272-X same as that listed at the start of this thread.

There are 4 differant 31" x 19" radiators for gas engines. The difference is the size of the cores.


dual 1.00" core part number 1-25272-x ($189)

dual 1.25" core part number 1-55272-x ($259)

dual 1.50" core part number 1-85272-x ($407)

triple 1.25" core part number 1-65272-x ($484)


Prices are from Summit Racing, add the prefix "GRI" to the Griffin part number when ordering from Summit.


I am running the dual 1.25" core which needs custom mounts. Only the dual 1.00" core radiator can use the stock mounts with slight trimming, all others will require custom mounts.

Does anyone know if these Griffin radiators also have provisions for tranny coolers for auto cars?

The universal fit Griffin doesn't have a tranny cooler, but Griffin does offer a "specific fit" radiator for our cars. This version will have the trans cooler, but the price is around $489.

Thanks Bret...I went with the Modine from Napa, $170 or so with a jug of new coolant. I thought about the all aluminum one others have seen on Ebay but I also need new tires for my truck so I went the cheap route for now. With my fan switch, it runs at 180 all the time now.

Hi,

I've got the big Griffin radiator with the AT and Heater hose

connections in my 87 Iroc Showcar. Went directly to Griffin to

get it as was backordered thru Summit. Payed less than thru

Summit but with shipping was a wash. Can take a picture of

it and can E-Mail to someone to host if you want. Haven't

worked on my down sizing or host site to be able to post.

i am using the griffin 1-855272-x ( 2 core by 1.5 tubes in a blown 68 nova.
yes i had to do alot of mods to install it like cutting my lower rad mounts and fabricating my own so i could drop the damn thing 3" so it would be flush
at the top and opening up the core support as to expose all of the core. this radiator will probably be fine for most moderate street motors but has failed misserably for my application. at $430 for a radiator i think
that it could do better. my nova is driven on the street and not raced. it has a 16" spal fan on the left and 2 stacked 8" fans on the right. im running a billet mezier water pump and no electric water pump out there ( and i have tried them all ) will work. this combonation still has issues with my motor on hot days when the outdoor temp is above 85 to 90. i am also running no hood because the hood just multiplies the problem. 355 ci small block with solid roller 260 X 270 @ .050 - 635 lift with 1.5 rockers. 671 blower overdriven 5%. static compression ratio 8.375 to 1 . dart pro1 heads with 2.05 X 1.625 valves and 215 cc runners with 64 cc chambers. automatic trans with independant cooler. no a/c. i know that i dont have an f-body but thought i would interject my comments about the griffin rad. yes, i know, im pushing it to the max but i was advised by griffin that it would work and it almost does but not quite. stat = 165 deg. with 3 weep holes drilled in it. this combo go's over 210 deg. on hot days and thats not going to get it done for me. 36 deg locked timing. any less timing and the problem obviously increases. at this point im not sure which direction to turn other than tuning down the horsepower which i would ratther not do. i am investigating evans coolant and becool's so called 1000 hp radiator # 60010. becool says that it will handle 1000 hp if you use their rediculasly priced fan unit that pulls 3720 cfm. i am in conversation with derale about their fan setup that beat the becoo fan setup in an independant study and pulls 4000 cfm. the becool fan setup is $700 and the derale setup is $ 225... looks like a no brainer to me. i just wonder what planet becool resides on. maybe Zeulon 6... LOL

Hi Ed, if you substitute a "T" for the "X" you get the auto tranny version with the tranny cooler in the radiator...I'll see if I can remember how to post a picture.

Here's mine with the Griffin Universal 31x19 and my current manual clutch fan soon to be a set of LT1 electric fans.

I put the 31x19 fan in my car. I ended up having to cut the lower radiator support out and making a new one out of 1/4 angle iron.
