K... replying to my own topic here....

I burned my first flash prom tonite. It took a few tries as it wouldnt finish programming up to 7FFF for some reason. After about 3 tries it programmed it all. Put in the memcal and the car started right up with no SES light on https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/smile.gif Changed the .bin file and simply reprogrammed it and it worked again! How simple! U dont even have to issue a separate erase command.. it automatically erases it while it programs! Very cool https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/smile.gif

Well, this would be my luck but I am having problems programming the flash proms. I get a programming error every time. I have tried probably a thousand times and just to make sure the programmer was working ok I burned a regular eprom and it did fine. I downloaded the new 3.6 fileprom.exe update, made sure everything is closed in windows except for fileprom and it still won't work! Any ideas?

I don't know, we burned our first "flash prom" and it worked great the first time.

Mine did that too, then I remembered I had the programmer hooked up trough an exention cord, so I just plugged it in directly into the LPT1 port ont he computer. Now... it takes about 4-5 tires to program a chip fully. Sometimes it stops at 0200 or even at 7000. Sometimes I noticed it flashes on the second try. I dont know why this happens though :/ Really weird. Try to set your port type to Normail instead of EPP or ECP in your BIOS settings, and also try to do it from DOS instead of doing while being in a command prompt under Windows.

You did not mention this, so i thought i would throw this out @ you. have you tried more than one EEPROM? our burner @ work is tempermental with some lots & not with others, of the same flavor.

if so have you tried to program all 0's to see if it will take it?

just a few ideas.

Programmer is connected straight to the printer port with no extension. I have only tried one flash prom, will try another one tonight. I will also try it in only DOS to see what happens. Thanks for the tips guys! Hopefully I can get them to work.....as I am sick of erasing the eproms.

Tried programming in DOS only and it worked the very first time. Reprogrammed it about 10 times and it worked everytime. Whew!!! I also found that it's much faster to program. For anybody that is having problems with the Flash proms, try it in DOS only and it should work just fine.

Thanx for sharing that!

I have found problems when using "Fileprom", but the DOS version "EPROM" always seems to work no matter what. I always recommend for people to use the DOS version "EPROM".

I've got the Windows version from Xtronics. Works great. https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/wink.gif So far... I ordered my flash proms thursday, should be here monday.
