Other car/truck engines that will fit 1987 Camaro Does anyone know of any other cars/trucks (make, model, year) whose engine will fit in a 1987 Camaro V6 2.8 liter? Also, do you know the approx. price? Thank you. |
Re: Other car/truck engines that will fit 1987 Camaro any small block G.M. motor will fit . big blocks will also fit with work . price depends on how much you have to spend . |
Welcome aboard thirdgen.org. Are you wanting to keep the V6, or go to a V8? As far as I know, the only rear wheel drive 60 degree V6's used by GM were in 3rd gen f-bodies and S10-series vehicles, and they were different between the cars & trucks. The later 3rd gen V6's were 3.1 liter, and much improved over the 2.8. 3.4 liter 60 degree V6's are also out there, I believe they were used in early 4th gen f-bodies and some trucks. Also available as a crate engine. This all is discussed on the V6 forum. If you're thinking V8, then what Tom said. Although, "fit" is a very relative term. Read the V6 to V8 swap sticky at the top of this forum. |
Re: Other car/truck engines that will fit 1987 Camaro Don't forget the GM 3.1 was available with TBI in the isuzu rodeo circa 1991-1992. The fiero 2.8 also shares many common parts. |

Re: Other car/truck engines that will fit 1987 Camaro I saw a sad looking early 4gen at a local JY with 3.4L. IIRC GM at one time offered a complete retrofit kit for 2.8L to later 3.4L V6 http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/En...230&engCat=rpo 4.3 L is basically a 90 degree engine (similar to Gen 1 V8) whereas 2.8 L is 60 degree V6 with a different bell housings pattern. 4.3L can be fitted, but transmission swap (or bell housing adapter) should be considered. //RF |

Obviously, "fit" needs to be defined. What's your definition, zette18? |
Re: Other car/truck engines that will fit 1987 Camaro Thank you all so much for your quick responses. It looks like everything is going to work out (knock on wood). I had a bit of misfortune at a garage I took my car to and I found out today that they will be giving me a remanufactured motor with pretty much new everything except my original electronics and injectors (not just a motor pulled from another car and thrown in my car). Thanks again for the quick responses. You are all awesome. |
So you're getting another 2.8l V6. |
Re: Other car/truck engines that will fit 1987 Camaro Yes, that's really all I need. |
