100% agree side pipes look okay on old vettes and vans let them die there!

Re: SIDEPIPES

Dont put sidepipes on your car. If anything just run the exhaust out to the back tire it looks way better.

Re: SIDEPIPES

Lol dude do what you want i hate when people are one sided this is all opinion here. having them out the back looks crisp and Clean IMO but having them out the sides gives you the old school muscle car look. really how many drag cars do you see with exhaust out the back....i am switching mine to go out the side. and im assuming your younger (like me) its nice to drop before the axel and out before the tires because lets face it, as soon as you go over that axel you just added a whole new price tag. my setup is currently a headman longtube to an H-Pipe to true duals to moroso spiral flow mufflers, out the side before the rear wheels, on a 355 roller. do what you like and think is best if you got any questions let me know i can tell you the differences ive had both on my car i hope you find what you like and just make sure your happy and thats all that matters. and IMO if you dont like that muscle car sound because your to old i hear honda makes a nice affordable four door hybrid and for those who like the rear exhaust i hear you can add a nice 6ft round tin can muffler on that sweet four door.

have a good one! John~

i see the point but that still falls into the opinion zone...because me as well as many others would love to have a thirdgen with a 440

hey now dont judge people tastes...everyones got there preferences.....cuz the world dont move to the beat of just one drum....what might be right for you may not be right for some

and as far as muscle cars go...i would consider thirdgens to be semi-modern muscle cars....kinda in the middle of a transition

These look OK and they are very functional for his setup. He has a FAST Camaro. I watched him run 8.3 1/4 mile @ 162mph at Portland International Raceway.

According to what state you're in they might not be legal, also with the windows down at a red light the fumes might get annoying after a while. But like others have said its a matter of opinion if you can legally do it in your state.

its all a matter of opinion, I consider my Trans Am a muscle car more then it is a sports car. course, I do kind of agree, the old Dodge Charger is more of a muscle car then my car.

Well, what dictates a muscle car. The 2002 were the fastest Firebirds and Tarns am made. Faster then any earlier edition. If a guy has a 8 sec 87 bird I would consider that a muscle car.

Side pipes only work if you have matching mud flaps and t-tops so your m*llet can blow in the wind. :lmao:

When did he run that? not trying to argue with you or anything, It's just that the fastest I've seen him run was in the high 8.4 range at 172 mph. I probably missed it, although I go out of my way to see his runs.

BTW, I posted that video and yes that is the same car.

A 305/350 isnt a big moter.........but by this definition you can have a muscle car.......as long as its a big block (hats off to your 82-92 big block swappers)

isnt big by what standard? the def. isnt saying "big block"...i think its more comparing to the size of v6s and I4s...with that mentality of yours then a 1st or 2nd gen camaro with a 350 isnt a muscle car and thats carazy!

Side pipes like that looks horrid yes. (dont kill me>) But have you ever seen side pipes on a roush racing mustang that are hidden and integrated into the gfx those look sweet. Not like that would be too hard with are cars lil fiberglass modification and it would look sweet the only problem would be floorpan mods bc theres no way ur fitting 3 inch pipe and having it hidden ud have too drop the gfx. Maybe ill make a run at this when i pick up another 3rd gen theres a white iroc-z in town for sale thats needs a good owner its been abused i dont have space for a third thou and i dont want too keep it outside lol guess ill just move the gf's car =]

Re: SIDEPIPES

Just having a big block or small block doesnt make something a muscle car. Would you consider a 75 cadillac with a 500 that makes 150 hp a muscle car? It has a big block in it.. by that line of thinking a 75 caddy with a 500 in it IS a muscle car and a 69 Z28 with its little 302 is not a muscle car.
On a side note a 3rd gen isn't a muscle car, muscle cars are defined as "High performance cars, factory-built between 1964 and 1972"

Im a big fan of the Rousche (spelling?) look where the side pipe comes out of the lower gfx. If I could get that look on my 91 Z28's ground effects I'd check it out. I wouldn't want to see ANY of the exhaust from the side....just the pipe exiting from my gfx.

I've thought about that before myself, that would look really cool if someone could pull it off, I don't know how you'd do it w/o melting the rocker but I'm sure there's a way..

Re: SIDEPIPES

One main problem with side pipes is burning yourself when leaving the car after a long drive. I actually have a side exit exhaust, but you can't see it. It's single sided, the pipe terminates almost in the rear wheel well. The pro, is when I go to replace my fuel pump (it's on it's last legs), I wont have to worry about dropping it when I drop the tank. Also, it's easy to remove the whole exhaust from the car if the need arises. The only real problem with a side exit set up is like 89RsPower! said, is the exhaust will drift into the open passenger window if there is a slight gust of wind. With my specific set up - since it is hidden, it terminates under the car (without turn downs) and resonates really loudly; I have no muffler or cats (temporarily) so it can be obnoxious at times.
