TTW Third Gen Phantom Grill

I'm not selling anything yet but thought I'd test the waters and get some feedback from the TGO community to see if it sparked any interest. I'm currently in the final phase of the R&D process for this grill. Below I have included a photo shop picture by ppr787 and a rough drawing
(on MSPAINT lol) of what the final product would generally look like. If enough people are interested we can get a great deal on getting them made maybe do a group buy deal. So let me know. Thanks guys.

Yes I'm working on that as well because to achieve the desired look I had to cut the top center of my bumper in between the headlights obviously. I'm considering coming up with 2 packages

1)You get the grill and all required hardware to mount, but will require you do modifications to successfully complete the conversion.

2)You get the grill all required mounting hardware and a new bumper that has already been modified for you.

Obviously option 2 would be the more expensive option. But if you wish to save your stock bumper then it doesn't hurt to spend a little bit more cash if you have it at your disposal.

are you and ppr787 doing this together or are you stealing his idea.

Re: TTW Third Gen Phantom Grill

we are keeping in touch regarding this. I bought my camaro a few days ago and the idea came to me and I got on here and saw a thread with ppr787 talking about it. so I contacted him, but there are differences in our theories so I don't think we are using the same method to get from A-B, understand what I'm saying?

I like the concept, but to me it makes the nose look too "busy". I'd take it one step farther and close up the stock openings in the bottom of the nose where the license plate goes.

Not perfect but I only spent 10 minutes on it. I think looks great with the bottom grill opening filled.

:iagree: That's what I was talking about and trying to accomplish.

And as far as a hood latch, just get the reverse hood hinges from the Buicks.

NO! NO! NO! And you wonder why people make fun of thirdgen owners. Hurry and do this so they can put it in the next Fast and Furious movie.

I'ts funny you say that. because its not like the squared off headlight section causes any drag right? lol But I was thinking of making a duct that feeds into the engine bay. But that will come later.

Lol yeah. If you believe that then you SHOULD go back on the set of Fast and Furious lol. I just bought the car few days ago and doesn't even run cuz yet cuz motor was pulled. That's why I'm tackling all the body work and mods right now. :thanks:

Your right it dont matter what other people think, but there are certain cars that you expect to see hacked up with funky body mods, the IROC in the first pic I dont think is one of them. When i saw the title i expected to see something new around the fog light area. But to each his own, just my opinion.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I was big on import years ago, but NEVER got into the whole Mortal Kombat body kit and all that crap. I've owned a Honda Civic and all I did was keep it clean with some nice wheels, and I owned a Nissan 350z added nice wheels, suspension and decklid lip rear spoiler.

What bothers me is that owning a camaro leaves you with NO options. No room for customizing and making it stand out to be your own. To me having three racing stripes instead of one or two doesn't mean your customizing... if that were the case I would just decorate the car with different stickers. but in the end this project leaves people with an option to be unique and different. It has remnants of the old school Camaro's how can you call it a hack job? It's not like some that I have seen take a Japanese body kit from a 300zx and have it cut and molded to a Thirdgen Camaro. And in my opinion it looked disgusting, but hey I can tell you one thing...everyone knows when he is coming because he didn't want to be like every1 else.

I think that the first few renditions of the grill make the Camaro look to similar to the new Challenger.

Hmm...I dont see the resemblence, aside from the headlight area square lights compared to round lights. but that really doesn't say Challenger to me I don't know...

Woah buddy, never said the fronts were perfect to begin with... But your taking an already prominent problem and making it worse... Either way good luck on your adventure, should be interesting to see the final product...

Headlight covers the go across both headlights and the middle? Not a bad idea I'll have to look into it.

Hey I just thought that today, but it wouldn't achieve the look I'm looking for. Good easy low cost solution though for anyone wanting to go that route.

Re: TTW Third Gen Phantom Grill

I think to really look good, it would need a whole new nose cone, not just a cut factory peice, if you go through with it post lots of pics, It might look pretty good, hard to say.

Best of luck-

Eric

Bull shnikee. :idiot:

My little 305TPI somehow managed to pull a 15.3 in the 1/4 mile in my convertible with me driving it. And you know what? If I tossed my 14 yr old brother the keys he could do the same thing, over and over and over. If you were talking about a potent drivetrain that took more than the *foot on throttle, GO!* method, then yea I would agree with you. But you are talking about a 305, it's a boat anchor for goodness sake. My grandmother could drive my car's old setup down the strip and run a 15.3 in it.

/ of / hijacking

Back to the original topic. As for the headlight buckets producing a lot of drag on a stock car, actually 3rd gens have better aerodynamics than 4th gens, believe it or not. So that's not a huge issue, but the grill in question does look like a giant parachute (an ugly one at that). It looks like you're trying to pull off that '69 Camaro, inset grill that is backed into the rear of the front bumper. It doesn't flow at all with the body lines. It's a 3rd gen, arguably the most dynamic design of all 4 generations.

Do a photoshop and just plain copy that charger. It should look better me thinks.

Re: TTW Third Gen Phantom Grill

I don't know. It looks ok with the area between the headlights cut and blacked out...kinda like a 5th gen. With the fog light area filled in and smoothed, it makes the front end look like a cow catcher on a train.

Definitely Challenger.
Just paint the area between the headlights for $5 for the same effect.

Re: TTW Third Gen Phantom Grill

What I would do is find a front nose and just expieriment with it. Then when you get it all done you can try it on your car and see how it looks. Ive got an old nose sitten at the shop since I decided to take on a pole I may throw some fiberglass on it and see what I can do if I get bored. If you want the nose to try it just pm me I'll give it to you.

Njs305t/a 11-08-2009 11:12 PM

Re: TTW Third Gen Phantom Grill

I like all these ideas but it would be pretty hard to do being that the bumper is plastic and all. Just repairing it is a lot of work. If the bumper was steel it would be a different story.....
