US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle I had a chance to stop by the Border Patrol Museum in El Paso, TX the other day. This jumped right out at me: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...9b020e224.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...08559bc4b.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...a68f2e72e.jpeg Its a bit of a "Frankenstein" by the looks of it, but still pretty cool. It's a TPI under the hood. |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle Anyone know how many of these they had? I remember seeing one at the inspection station in New Mexico along I-10 (west bound) in early 1993. It also looked like a slightly darker shade of green, but that could be my recollection. |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle Wow! Cool! |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle That's pretty cool. |

Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle Very cool! Do you if it was a 5.7 car? |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle That's a cool piece of history. Thanks for sharing that Dave! |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle Damn- that’s neat! |

Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle I thought the one I saw was an 89 |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle It is an interesting Vehicle 1) Noted as a 1985 2) Has a Formula Hood 3) Has Formula Wheels 4) Has Base Firebird/Formula Tail lights 5) Has 87-90 Rear Aero Spoiler 6) Appears to have a 4 spoke 88/89 Steering Wheel, cannot see very well... Does not look like an 82-87 Wheel in the pic. |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle Like I said, a bit of a Frankenstein... |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle I like the Frankenstein |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle I’d like to see more pics of the roll bar. The way the rear bars come down it looks like it might be the same 4 point I have seen in numerous B4C cars |
Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle Reviving an old thread here............. The research I've done recently states this is an 1989 Formula 350 (but why does it have the GFX?) this info was posted on the Border Patrol display for this car at the BP museum. I'd love to see the SPID tag or build sheet for this car - did someone add the GFX or did RPO R8Z add the GFX to this Formula ??? I'd like to know more about it |

Re: US Border Patrol Firebird Pursuit Vehicle Just saw (I'm assuming) your post about this on the Trans Am Lovers on fb. Something fishy here for sure...article says it's a Formula, yet it has ground effects, and a base Firebird hood. I would guess it's a case of someone wrecked it at some point, couldn't find the right hood, and thought the ground effects looked cool. |

So it's possible during a "restoration" someone added the Formula goodies......only way to know for sure is to get the VIN and/or SPID tag pics - a pic from back when it was originally delivered would be nice too. |
