4th gen seats into 3rd gen camaro

Pontiac Firebird into a 1986 camaro ....

will it be a direct bolt in for both the front seats as well as the rear or is it a little off? or do i have to just replace the rails?

They are a direct bolt in, I changed my seat tracks because of the seat track bolt covers though.

Really? They are damn comfortable to me. They a lot more comfortable then my 4th gen camaro seats i just dont like the looks of them.

well im a bigger guy so yeah..but a thin friend of mine says those seats are way too hard to sit on for over an hour and my 89 camaro seats are 20x more comfortbale.

The leather 4th gen seats in my dads trans am seem really comfortable to me. Then again the seats in my 91 rs are as old as me and probably pretty worn out.....guess i cant really compare.

they are a direct bolt in. the rear seats bolt in as well, but the fit of the seat leaves about a 1/4 inch gap. it's not bad... but if you're a perfectionist like me, it's something to be aware of.

awesome thanks alot for the warning and all the info. i found them for dirt cheap so ill try to them out and if they arent comfortable then ill get rid of them! thanks alot guys..

I thought you had to mount them on reversed seat tracks or else you run the risk of the seat flying off. I've never been in an accident to test this out, though.

I know I have 4th Gen front seats. Im trying to figureo ut if the rear seats are 4th gen aswell.

I ended up going with seats from a '90 Mustang GT bc the 4th gens wouldn't fit in my '92 GTA. Some of you guys should get your facts staright before telling everyone they will fit. I spent cash on seats that I couldn't even use and then took a loss on at the swap meet to get rid of them afterwards.

I've never heard of a case where 4th gen seats didn't fit... What's different in '92 Firebirds from the rest of the third gens?

I wanna replace my seats also. Amyone know if the 4th gen power seat plugs r the same or do they have to b spliced together?

Rear seat bottoms, between the side of the cushion & the panels = slight space. But you'll never notice it until you are REALLY anal about it. The only reason my rears are still 3rd gen seats is because I have a split back rest & all the 4th gens are a solid back rest. Don't wanna lose my split rear.

I installed 99 Camaro seats both front and rear into my 86 camaro with no problems at all. The newer drivers side seat was even power and getting it to work in a non- power seated car worked out great. A simple wire and leading to the fuse box and there you have it.

i have 1997 seats in my 89.fyi,the 4th gen seats sit lower.i had to install one inch spacers under the seats so i could see properly over my cowl hood.

if you think 4th gen seats are a tight fit (which they arnt at all!!) try 2005 gto seats lol they are wide!

ok so quick question.....basically to spell it out for myself and everyone else that is a noob....


1. - unbolt 4th gen seats with brackets?

2. - drink couple beers!

3. - assuming current crappy seats are already out. directly bolt 4th gen seats in? Or swap seat bracket from old seats to 4th gen?

4. - Celebrate with a case of beer!

i just bolted in the 1997 seats with the 1997 mounts.

Make sure you check to see if you have a twist off or pry off bottle cap and remove it properly

I saw that the 4th gen seats sit about an inch lower but do they sit further back too or the same? I'm 6' 6" I don't want to get any closer to the steering wheel than i already am or any closer to the headliner.

I have 4th (Firebird- power, drivers) gen seats in my 87. I already had wiring for an old amp under the old seats; 10ga wire, inline fuse by the battery. Bolted in soooo easy! Only difference I see (other than the rear seat-bottom gap) is the seats I got had dual latches on the rear, and seatbelt (shoulder) guides. Doesn't bother me a bit... Enjoy the extra leg room!

I put a manual 4th gen seat track on my original (1988) seat, because I needed the extra legroom. Do I understand the power 4th gen track goes further back as well?

Yes, Def more legroom. Power seat takes me farther back, so I guess so! Tilt adjust is nice, too. The passenger seat adds a little bit also...

I just did this yesterday. Picked up the whole set of charcoal dark grey (almost black) leather power seats out of a 94 Camaro for $80.!!! In excellent condition. Just grounded to the chassis and ran a power wire to the fuse box like you did and BAM! Only thing I don't like is the gen 4 seats sit about an inch or so higher and I like sitting low, but no biggie. They fit perfect, took an hour to do the full swap.

IMO they'd look out of place color wise, but I can think of worse color combinations for sure. At least Blue and Gray and remotely close, and don't really clash with each other too much. You're kinda restricted with used options on a Blue interior as no 4th gens and very few 3rd gens came with Blue.

Personally I'd stick with the original seats, the patterns match the door panels, and you're probably not going to find anything else Blue to match. But that's just me.

1) Yes, I think they would look out-of-place.

2) That interior seems to be a VERY NICE example of a factory original Blue interior,.... I would not change a thing unless the parts I was replacing were in better (original) condition than what was already installed.
