LT1 Wiring for dummies Can a moderator please put a STICKY on this and lock it, people are sending me a ton of emails on this and I don't have time to reply to all so I figured this will be a greater help to people: This will work for the 92-95 LT1s If you wire the following correctly your car will start on the first attempt. Going to leave this open, in case anyone has useful information to add... but please, lets keep the emails to a minimum even though he's the resident expert? :) |
Just thought I'd chime in here...Most of the wires necessary on the 3rd gen for this are easily accessed at the bulk head connector next to the brake booster on a 3rd gen. There you will find the gauge wiring. The tach wire is WHITE, the cranking/starter wire is PURPLE, the Voltage comes from the fat RED wires there that must have 12+volts at all times. There is also a thin BROWN wire that wires up to the Lt1 alternator BROWN wire. Oil pressure gauge wire is TAN. Coolant wire is DK GREEN. PINK is power ditribution wire. YELLOW/BLACK is low coolant probe if you are using a radiator or overflow bottle with one of these sensors. If you have a digital speedometer in your car, then there is a buffer box on the passnger side of the car(mine was yellow) that can be used for output from the PCM to input for the gauge(speedo). I can't remember what color the wire was there but it was either the second or third wire on the connector that makes the speedo work. If I remember anything else, I'll edit this. Feel free to email me as I always forget to check my PMs here. cpd004@hotmail.com |
LT1 PCM connections Hey guys I may not know what I'm talking about here but the PCM on my 94 LT1 is not a 10 pin hookup for the blue or white connector or a 4 pin for the black. All 4 hookups are 32 pin connectors as I'm looking at my PCM right now. If theres is something I missed please correct me so I can get this right and get the motor in the car and wired correctly. |
Lt1cnqst...yes, all 4 connectors are 32 pin. By the way...what are you putting the Lt1 in...I just noticed your user name and I was wondering if it was a Conquest? |
10 pin to 32 pin If the 94 PCM has four 32 pin connectors instead of 10 pin. Does anyone know what wires go where. Or if the ones listed in the sticky are the ones I need to use. How do I find them on a 32 pin PCM. |

different wires??? EDIT: This is apparently a 1996 wiring harness, unfortunatly I can't say for sure if it is from a B, F, or Y body :( I copied and pasted all the information here, printed it out, and headed off to my car expecting some nice easy splices....When I started trying to match wires that seemed relevant, I ran into a jam! The Blue and White connector listings didn't match my connectors. They were close, but not exact. I wrote down what I have, but forgot to bring it with me, I'll edit this post sometime after 5:00pm today with the colors. The one specific one I remember is the grey fuel pump wire on the white connector (F) if I remember correctly, didn't even have a wire at pin F, and no grey wires at all. This motor is from a 1995 Camaro, if someone has a helm from that year, could you post the info for these connectors? Thanks Edit: Ok here is what I have: Edit: Ok, now more readable! Guide for differences: X=different ?=Not sure whats going on there maybe different, maybe omitted??? I'll do my best at this to help. If you mean buy pinout on the pcm connector for the fuel pump wire being grey...I don't think thats where it should be. You need a grey wire coming off of the fuel pump relay to attach to the stock wiring of your 3rd gen car that goes back to the pump itself. I believe the color for the fuel pump before it gets to the relay coming out of the pcm is green/white. You would not have to tap in here at all. This is what I can come up with for a 1995 Camaro: A is RED PCM connector. B is BLACK PCM connector. C is GREY/CLEAR PCM connector. D is BLUE PCM connector. Unfortunately because I don't have the time, these will not be in order until I can get a chance to edit this post. It should help though. I'm not sure what all that is. I do have the c100 connector pinout for my car (Thank goodness for the helm!!!!!, Wish I had one for the '95......I might go down to the dealer and get photocopies :) ) I guess the most appropriate question for a guide would be which wires need splicing, which can be eliminated/ignored. I am quite capable of figuring it all out, but I don't know if I can get enough figured out before Tuesday of next week, which is when the car has to be running :) (I'd say tight schedules suck, but I have been working on this for 2+ months now...lol, its just crunch time now) While I am here posting, this may be a dumb question, but hell, I'll shoot, Does the maf for this car haf power and burnoff relays? Will the thirdgen ones work? Connector wire colors would be a plus lol :) I think with all that I could very easily have the beast up and running this weekend! and Trans Am #5 thanks for all the help so far, I really do appreciate it. Without the help I get from people like you from this site, and a few others *cough*NTTGA!*cough*, most of what I have done/learned would not have been possible. I do understand busy schedules, and I know I really should have the helm for this motor, but its too late for that. Back to topic, thanks EDIT: Ok looking back...wow, colors for the whole harness???? Thats what it looks like, I got a few more minutes, so I'll try and sift a little :) Ahhhh, got it, off the PCM itself, wow though, what a pain tracing wires like that, I kinda hoped the helm for the car would have the connectors and pinouts like mine has for the 87. Unfortunatly, I don't know the letter/number designation for those connectors.... |
1 Attachment(s) You're welcome...There are going to be wires that can be eliminated but should be done so only after the car actaually runs. That way you can make sure you haven't missed anything. |
Check this link out for schematics for a 1995 Z28. These should clear up some issues as well. http://www.thirdgenfbodies.com/forum...?showtopic=436 These are for a 1995 Z28. The link will take you to another site where I was able to add larger pics of the pages from the manual. |
Thats some good info, however, it still doesn't appear to be what I need. At least, I dont think it is. My concern is this: I have many wires w/o plugs on the 4th gen wiring harness. Some of them I can see I will have to splice into the C100 connector, and spend a whole lot of time with a continuity testor on a DMM to figure out which wires actually go to those connectors. I can accept that, although, I'd rather not. What really bugs me is I know my old motor had injector fuses, and I have seen references to them on the new motor, but there are no provisions for hooking up the old fuses to the new wiring harness, and more, I don't even know where to connect them in the circuit. I am sure there are more, and once I find those, the rest of the missing "links" will probably be right around the connector for the injector fuses. Right now, I see only 3 things I can do. 1 Get the *^&^$&^($& under-hood fusebox 2 Run wires from inside my car's under-dash fusebox to the firewall (what a waste of copper/PITA 3 insert fuses where necessary, very ugly and still a PITA. Is there something I am missing? Just to give you and indea of what I am up against, I have these 4 connectors or so that need homes/splices http://www.oglp.com/images/wires/wire11.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/wires/wire3.jpg This is why I am concerned.... |
Ok people, I went to a dealer and scanned some stuff from the service manual. I missed one connector because I remembered it's number of pins wrong, but I did get the wiring diagram/schematic of where its wires go. If someone has access to the servie manual, you should be able to see the page numbers of where the c100, c220, and c230 connectors are, and therefore it should be a cinch to scan the last connector and post it. I will not be able to host these for long so grab them now and hang onto them for people with future problems!!!! http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/c100.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/c220.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/c230.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/fusebox1.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/fusebox2.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/fusebox3.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/fusebox4.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/fusebox5.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/fusebox6.jpg http://www.oglp.com/images/car wiring/fusebox7.jpg |
Is it hard to repin your harness/connectors? If I use this thread, how long will it take to do all of the wiring/electrical stuff? Also, what parts should I get from the donor car, here's what I've got: -Engine -Main harness -Computer -Sensors What else? -Rippin |

Engine swap-Help Needed I am doing a swap from a 94 LT1 (Vette) into a 85 Iroc Z28 camaro! Help Please This will work for the 92-95 LT1s If you wire the following correctly your car will start on the first attempt. F-BODY LT1 ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. This post above is the factory wiring harness the same as the 94 vett LT1? I dont have to modify the cross member with this engine right? I need hedders, high volume fuel pump, and what else? Does this engine have VSS, maf,the VAT I here about? How do I work with all this? Can I bypass the VAT? Hey camaro gu-ru's I really need help here, sooo please all the help you can give will be greatly appreciated. I need a working swap guide, all the ones I have seen are incomplete. Can some one write me and tell me all they had to do for this swap, pretty Please. My Email is corey.d.miller@us.army.mil |
Just curious, the VATS 16 pin connector thats listed first on the how-to, does anyone have a picture of this connector? the blue, black, white connectors are easy shots, but I'm not seeing hte VATS connector... ty |
computer pin outs 1994 LT1 Vette Hey I found these on the computer pin outs, heres the pic as an attachment, if they are allowed to be on here via the web site guys. |
Hey mat question would i be able to use a stock shifter and cable with the 4l60e trans? (that's the cable for p r n d 2 1) also do you have any pics of your car i'd like to check it out thanks |
Thanks for the scans Corry, they also help w/L36 swaps :D ;) You da MAN!!!!!!!!!! :hail: :hail: :hail: :hail: :hail: :hail: http://domesticv6.com/forums/images/...isHeadBang.gif |
Hey I just wanted every one here to know that I have gotten the LT1 from a 94 vette installed in my 85 Iroc, and I used the factory vette wiring harness! |
I started the wiring today and found out that if you have the old harness, and new harness, and both the service manuals there....It's not that hard to figure out! Trans Am #5 was very helpful in which wires to splice coming out of the C100 connector, and I was able to find what they go to, and match them up with the LT1 wires fairly easily. One thing, on the LT1 harness, the 3 connectors that Corry posted schematics for go into the 4th gen car and connect to the Instrument Panel. You can find the wires for the Tach, Speedo, and Engine Coolant Temp sensor there. I don't know about ya'll, but there was a tan wire coming from my C100 connector that has a connector that hooks up directly to the oil pressure sensor on the left rear of the LT1 block. (That's how I hope to read the oil pressure) Also, for the LT1 alternator, I just cut the old connector off, and used the 3-wire one from my 305 TBI, and plan on wiring that up. Hopefully this helps some people, I'll try to post more helpful info as my swap progresses! |

Glad it was useful for ya tamatt27. |
I was curious if anybody has done this using a caprice LT1 harness yet? The 8th letter of the VIN on my car (86 IROC, formerly a TPI 305 car) is F if that helps (far as I know it was a 305 TPI car). I do plan to pickup an FSM for the car, but I haven't yet, and I want to try to get the LT1 harness wired into the camaro as soon as I can. I am using an LT1 harness from a 95 caprice as my starting point, and I do have an FSM for that platform. Also, on the diagram of the camaro C100 connector, F8 is brown and connects to the charging system, and it was said above that it connects to the LT1's brown alternator wire. My LT1 alternator plug has 2 wires and they're both brown, so I'm not sure which to connect it to. Any advice? I can trace them back through that harness, thats no problem at all, should I look for the one that goes to the firewall, or do they both? I assume one controls the alternator and the other runs the voltage gauge in the dash? |
whats up Mike454SS. my car had a 305 tpi and i wasn't getting any kind of charge with just the brown wire of the lt1 harness. what i did with mine was i used the old connecter off my alternater (305 tpi) and spliced it to the brown wire and the red wire to starter. |

I don't have the stock TPI harness...previous owner took about half of the engine wiring...but he didn't cut anything, he just unplugged what was on top of the engine itself. Also curious...how did you guys hook up the check engine light? Did I read right past it do I need to run a new wire through the bulkhead? Something to do when I wire up the ALDL? Maybe I should just get a 730 harness and ECM and run a different engine in this car. |
About the check engine light, it shouldn't be that hard. Just find the wire coming out of the LT1 computer that's for the check engine light, and wire it up to the wire for the thirdgen check engine light. I don't know how to wire up the ALDL...not at that part yet. Maybe someone else will chime in and help us both out... |
tamatt27 the way i have my aldl connected is i ran the tan wire from the c105 threw the fire wall and spliced it to the orange wire on my aldl. and also the ground. |
For those of you with MSD ignitions.,...where do i hook up the wires to? More importantly, the crank trigger/timing wire?? |
whats the c 105 connector for?? mines missing. |

hey guys questions J is DK GRN/WHT and is fuel pump replay control |
hey guys i hope some poeple are still watching this. i have a problim. on the first post were some slots say that they are empty there is wires on mine. im running a manual and if from what i understand from above they are for auto performance shifting stuff??? someone please chime in. |

ok guys i pinted out all the wiring diagrams and the only problem i am running into is the harness was sent off and had a data cable installed so i can runn the lt1 edit . and they cut off the c100 conector and the othere one i think it is the . my question is i have read this post manny times and still am confused. the wires from the c100 of the lt1 harnes are the only thing i need to hook up right. minus the vats eliminator box. and i just plug in the vss plug to my 700r4 and the speedo should work right. I was also told by someone that i could use the lt1 tranny plug to hook up my torque lock up. i just need to know the 3 wires that match my 92 harness? i know that is pretty confusing and im sorry i am just trying to figure this all out. I know you all say it should be real easy but in trying to figure it out. thank sean |
