well capital raceway doesnt really have events or a schedule like Budds Creek so Capital might be our best bet

pokes87iroc 09-29-2002 02:33 PM

couldnt we turn it into like a car show on saturday. then we can charge other non thridgeners. it would help out with the price of the track. if its like a car show then we can try to get some of the aftermarket people to show up and show some of there products. even bring some to buy that way we can get alittle more out of it to. i dont know just a suggestion. let me know what u think.

MdFormula350 09-29-2002 02:56 PM

I think Capital is a cool idea, on what day? Friday , Sat, Sunday?
Fri and Sat i am off, Sundays i work 12-5...

i think to save money we should see if we can just rent some of the lanes, therefore other people can come and look at our cars, and also help pay the bill...

i dont mind other nice cars racing around us!!

You couldn't request off on a Sun, with like 6 months notice?
I've been told most of the times the tracks don't charge much at all to give you lanes. So i'll check into that. Sundays, I would think would be less busy at the track.

Dennis91RS 09-29-2002 03:01 PM

hey i know

1.)thirdgen fbody shootout firebirds VS camaros
2.)Fbody VS Mustang shootout
3.)fbody vs rice shootout

first one sounds kinda cool i think

I like the idea.

Sat we'll have the meet, camp out for those that want to and get drunk (if of age:D ) and Sun run at the track.

88GTAinRI 09-29-2002 04:03 PM

I'm from Rhode Island, that little speck on the map. I would attend
definately if the event was in the first week of June. I go to the Winston cup race every year in Dover, DE. If it was any other time I would have too see just hoe "big" this would be to drive 5-6 hours and take long weekend vacation to Maryland. Doesn't the dragstrip have grounds for car show/ tailgating? New England Dragway in New Hampshire has a ton of area where they have car show and events every year for the super Chevy show.

See if SLP or other sponsor will help you out with track price or planning. I know I spent some big bread with SLP and I plan on given Steve Spohn some of my hard earned money over the winter.

virginyan 09-29-2002 06:17 PM

Md, SoCenPA, NoVa...End of May/1St Jun

:waveman:
I must agree with the most sensible thing I'vc read so far.....MD would be central. Hey, I'm all for the Blue Ridge Mountains of Va because...well, I live there, but, wouldn't be good to our Northern members. Plan something for sure.....two dayer...party the first night..local band, whatever... cookout...a cruise, now that would be the real thing! Count me in, enough notice, I can be there!

BADAZZ_Z28 09-29-2002 06:54 PM

Is anyone checking on cecil or capitol regarding prices if spectators were eligible to come. If we could get the track a whole weekend we could have a saturday test and tune from say 10-3ish then a car show (im sure we could get part of a parking lot from a large store). After the show a cookout followed by a cruise at night. Then on Sunday i really liked the idea of a firebird vs. camaro shootout. That would be something fun to do that would definately draw spectators. We could start early so each car got 3 or 4 runs then in the early afternoon we could take the 10 fastest camaros vs the 10 fastest firebirds and go head up in an elimination style thing. I guess I was just bored and started thinking a bit too much about this but atleast its a couple idea to work with. What do the rest of you guys think?

pokes87iroc 09-29-2002 07:37 PM

sounds good bad but what if we do get around 100 thridgens. that would probaly be a quit a bit of people for a parking lot. i think we should try to get some after market people to but it all sounds good still.

Mark A Shields 09-29-2002 07:40 PM

Well, this won't be in a small parking lot, I'll plan for a spot big enough, like maybe a park.

pokes87iroc 09-29-2002 07:44 PM

mark what about fairgrounds or something like then wouldnt that be the best then we can charge people to come in. plus there would be enough room for camping and partying (im glad i just turned 21 haha). but im sure there is something like that and like i said before that would help out with the track and stuff.

Mark A Shields 09-29-2002 07:47 PM

Fairgrounds are a good idea, there is one about 5 mins from me.:D

I could use some of you guy's help, if you live near or know of places like this, get me contact info on prices and such or give me the contact info and I'll contact them.

jerflash 09-29-2002 09:11 PM

that would be bad:doh:

anyway thanks buy then im sure i would have gotten this whole clutch thing down:D

Mark A Shields 09-30-2002 10:18 AM

Well, I've heard back from a few tracks and all want an absurd amount of money. I'm still goin to check on a few, but it may be that we only get like 2 lanes or so just for us.

The last place wanted $600 for one car and $100 for every car there after + $125 for emt.

Red_Demon 09-30-2002 11:39 AM

Would this gathering be THIS coming spring(2003)??
Assuming I'm not working for *ahem* Honda (I know I don't wanna work there either, but they'll give me a co-op which will help me get into gm) and I can get my car semi touched up, count me in.

yes, this coming spring/early summer.

Don't worry about the car too much, most of us don't have show quality cars anyways, it's a meet not a car show.

Red_Demon 09-30-2002 11:50 AM

Then I'm in.. Just tell me where and when And I'll be there assuming I'm not in ohio... (if it's a weekend I might be able to come home for it of course)

wm_sorg 09-30-2002 12:02 PM

My L$1 swap should be done by then. The clear coat is peeling so my car will look like **** compated to some of the others there. Perhaps I can get information on a good body $hop there.

Im in Connecticut, could you give like town ideas? It says it is 5 hours and 42 minute drive from my house to annapolis maryland and like 342 miles. I need to fix the T/A's cooling problem. Its the same distance as school is from my house, so it really isnt that bad. Probably get my father to go with me. Track really isnt that important, as I'm not exactly sure Id like to beat on my car 350 miles away. It seems to just break too many things.

Early summer is best, but I have school for a while, and they require a summer course best taken freshman year

84TAProject 09-30-2002 12:22 PM

I just looked at a map, and PA would be 100 times better if kept on the eastern part. More guys from New England would be able to make it down there.

Yeah, but there are several coming from FL to about 1500 miles away. LOL

we'll see, so far the tracks in MD want an arm and leg.

Annapolis is a good city to mark off, and try baltimore too.

Mark A Shields 09-30-2002 01:34 PM

We might have a winner guys, located in So. MD Budds Creek.
This is what they sent me.
Mark,
We do not rent the track on Saturday and Sundays during the season. We do have programs where we can run club activities from 10am to 2pm on Saturday mornings. The cost is $20 per car and $12 per person. You can contact me for more info.

I'm waitin to hear back for more info though.

I was kiddin about the age thing.

Mark A Shields 09-30-2002 04:05 PM

Here is the other email MIR sent me.
We do have a regular morning Test & Tune in addition to the clubs. It
usually has from 10 to 15 cars. Your club would have ther own staging
lanes and most of the track time for side by side runs. The club
functions do have a $1,200 minimum, which sounds like it would be no problem
for your group.

1500 miles, woah. And I thought Connecticut was bad. If I dont fix my cooling problem with the T/A, I may just take my beater 2.8. Its still a thirdgen.

Mark A Shields 09-30-2002 04:17 PM

I think I may have decided on a place.
http://www.goosebaymarina.com/images/marina_94k.jpg This park isn't too far from MIR Budds Creek. Looks like a real nice place. I emailed them to see about reservations.
Here are their rates for camping, not too bad.
-Daily
* $25 nightly (party of 4)
* $1 each additional person
* $3 each additional vehicle
All campsites equipped with electrical hook-ups and water
Clean shower houses and restrooms
2 dumping stations
In ground Pool

I'll wait to hear back, but looks like I may have a place decided, hopefully all works out well.

dude, I used to live 2mins from that place!!! Lived in the area for 13yrs. It's in Chuck Co., off of rt 6, about 45 min from MIR. you also get to drive thru LaPLata MD, & see what the tornado did to it many months ago. Major shopping in Waldorf just up the road. And also close to Sartiks, home of "Murphy's Ribs". best dam ribs in SoMD.

edit: will SMIBs be allowed?

I haven't heard that since freshman yr in HS. :D

Project: 85 2.8 bird 09-30-2002 04:45 PM

and what year would that be?
McDonough Class of 90 here

I graduated in '00 at Calvert High. I'm 21 btw.

Mark A Shields 09-30-2002 07:50 PM

20659 is the zipcode for the track.

92 Red Firebird 09-30-2002 09:06 PM

well, i'm alittle disapointed. So. MD is a long way from No. MD. it's only a 3 hr drive from where I live with my 11 miles a gallon gas eating machine. I was hoping it would be more toward No. MD due to the fact that most Mid-Atlanticers are from PA, NJ, DE, & MD. No. MD would put the meet right in the middle of the Mid-Atlantic regin, and that would mean easy access for all.

88GTAinRI 09-30-2002 09:12 PM

Yeah, i'm disappointed also. Count me out. That's too far a hike for me.

Someone from the Northeast put something together!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark A Shields 09-30-2002 09:36 PM

Chill guys I'm still lookin.

No. and So. MD are only about 1.5hrs apart you know.

Is everyone dead set on having a track? That is the main hold up right now, as I have to find an affordable one, if not, then I can make it in No. MD no problem. But I'll keep searchin for some tracks.

tpivette89 09-30-2002 10:03 PM

yeah! we need a track! so you guys dont want to do it at Cecil anymore, huh? damn, im there almost every weekend... its like less than a half hour away from me. i know its supposed to be a thirdgen meet, but, would my Vette be invited too?

Mark A Shields 09-30-2002 10:15 PM

Cecil wanted like $10k, maybe I'll check back with them and see about gettin some lanes set aside for us.

You got a 3rd gen, bring it.:D

bigbrianiroc-z 09-30-2002 10:35 PM

how about a national one in kansas or somthing.... probly not but just an idea.

Mark A Shields 09-30-2002 10:39 PM

well gee, thanks for the idea now, after i've racked my brains and stressed enough over this.:D

But I can't get the NJ guys to come to So. MD, good luck on them coming to KS.;)

robertg 09-30-2002 10:58 PM

i'm not really interested in renting a track.

if i drive to budd's creek, i'll travel just under 800 miles round trip. that's a bit too far to try and race the car.

i'm more in with the idea of having the camping, and cookout type things. also having a cruise at a store location, maybe a walmart or something. also, what about a lunch date at a restaurant maybe? say have that before everyone leaves.

MdFormula350 10-01-2002 07:29 AM

Mark i think alot of people liked the idea of Northern MD.. espically because that was what more poeple wanted over PA in the poll.

I dont want to race but if we can get two lanes at the Cecil track for cheap i will race but take it easy.. dont want to blow my stock car up :D

BADAZZ_Z28 10-01-2002 08:23 AM

all for 2 lanes at cecil. the walmart 5 min away has a car show the first saturday of every month. i know because i work there. Im only 16 so i gotta pay the 220 dollar a month insurance some way. I know i could get half the parking lot for a car show though. If anything they would welcome it. It draws more people.

SHAGME 10-01-2002 08:30 AM

cecil never emailed me back its been a week they suck. :( they want business or not have they actually given u a straight answer? Id want somthing in writing, to guarrentee what we get for our money. Im looking fwd to this. Ill help out ifI can let me know but Im in northern NJ so I ll do as much as I can from here.

Mark A Shields 10-01-2002 08:41 AM

Well, tomorrow I have no classes, I'll try to start a simple webpage for this event on geocities.

I'll try to contact Cecil again about maybe just getting some lanes set aside. I guess I need to take a count on how many actually want to race, that should make things easier, the rest could bs and watch.

Rhoadster01 10-01-2002 01:38 PM

Mark and whoever else is helping set this up,

Just a thought, but i know that some of the local car clubs and other guys around here sometimes put their cash together and rent out a small airport runway for the day every once in a while. While i live right down the road from the track, this is often a lot more fun b/c everyone gets a ton of runs in all day and its not as expensive. just a thought.

Donnie
