Vortech swap

Let's say hypothetically speaking, a Vortech V3-Si fell into my lap w/ an air-to-water intercooler.

Let's say my T-trim's obnoxious whine has been driving me nuts.

Let's say the air filter being kinda over the exhaust has always been a thorn in my side as no matter what it picks up tons of hot air, and I can't really figure out a useful way to plumb it otherwise.

But the SI is CCW and I need a CW blower for my car so it won't mount as-is.

Would you:

1) Swap the volute and impeller, and use the nice quiet V3 gearbox, then selling the Si volute and impeller with the V1 HD gearbox (V1-Si HD was a thing so it's legit-ish)
2) Sell the V1 T-Trim as is, and buy an aftermarket volute and impeller (T-trim size)
3) Re-design the brackets to run the Si backwards, sorta like a C4 LT1 does, with the air intake down and front
4) Part out the thirdgen, and put the Si in my C4.

??

I don't know all that would be involved, but option #3 seems like the way to go to me.

It would effectively require a single serpentine belt driving everything, and then a creative intake elbow depending on how much room exists between the blower and the radiator.

Option 3 seems lke a good idea if it will actually work. But putting it on the vette sounds fun too. Maybe put the v3 on the vette. Sell/ swap out the T for somethin with less fab but quieter? Whatever you do, option 4 should be off the table

i might be interested in the t trim should you decide to get rid of it..... lol

Re: Vortech swap

I never liked the ECS and HOB Corvette brackets that faced the blower frontward due to the lack of spacing between the blower and the radiator. In my opinion, if you're going to do that, do it the way Overkill Superchargers did by pushing the blower further away from the engine, as well as running an independent blower belt. Although this is a newer V6 application, the same principles apply because there is essentially the same amount of space to work with, or the lack thereof...

More 1st world problems... lol
Is there any room to reclock the outlet side and send it and the piping under the blower then routing the air filter to the inner fender area where the current discharge pipe is?

Re: Vortech swap

Sell the T-trim and / or trade it for a V2 T-trim. Post your ads on the mustang forums, they sell faster vs here (no offense thirdgen)

The deal fell through, but you are right. I mocked up my T-Trim yesterday (backwards) and there isn't enough room to make the air cleaner work unless you put it WAY outboard, but then you end up with a stupid long belt.

I put the car back to N/A for now (so quiet now.. I'm at peace! haha) T-Trim is for sale. I might sell the vortech brackets / pulleys. I have another idea if I end up keeping the car. Will post a thread.

How hard would it be to put the intake somewhere else? Mine is on the drivers side. Im thinkin about pulling air from the power bulge. (Formula hood) making a sheild over the headers. Just a thought

I I thought about that, and I've seen people fabricate things it's just always looks like crap.

Some guys remove their heater box and run the filter into the fender, which works I guess on a dedicated drag car.

Nope, still have the bracket. (Passenger side mount)

Are still thinking about selling it or no?

I have read that the blower whine can be reduced by drilling "air escape holes" in the pulleys.
That whine sound you hear is the trapped air being squeezed out from between the belt and the pulley.
Drill 1/16" into the tooth valleys on the pulleys.

Yes the brackets are for sale. PM me your e-mail address if you are interested, I can take some photos.

I sold the Vortech setup and sold the car. Kept the long block for one of my Corvettes, and have some misc parts left over.

maaaybe for a cog setup, but not a ribbed type belt. really i would doubt it would help with the cogged belt either. i think its just the sound of the teeth coming in contact with the pulleys, similar to a bulldozers tracks as it travels.
