Tierod nuts rusted...Help My tierod nut is rusted to the stud so stud just spins when I try to break loose. I've pb blasted it daily now for 3 days...still no luck.:gocrazy: Any help for a rookie ???:thanks: |
Re: Tierod nuts rusted...Help I guess you are replaceing the outer tie rod end at the knuckle, if so use a hack saw and cut the nut. be careful to not damage the knuckle. Ball stud will be tough to try to cut so slice vertical down the side. may have to cut on opposite sides about 3/4 or so then use a chisel and a BFH to finish knocking off the nut. |
Re: Tierod nuts rusted...Help usually you can use a pickle fork to wedge it enough to getit off with an impact gun if not then i usually torch the nut and studif not then cut it with a sawzall steel cutting blade or do what bilms said yep :D the problem you are having is common, the stud is not tight in the tapered hole thats all it happens all the time do what you have to to get it off, dont be nice to it good luck |
Re: Tierod nuts rusted...Help Ive never seen one rusted enough to stand up to a impact gun Did you try prying/applying pressure to it so the stud wont spin? |
Re: Tierod nuts rusted...Help Not yet..that seems like my next step before the sawzall.. Thanks |
Re: Tierod nuts rusted...Help yeah thats what you have to do to tighten them sometimes, Pry up on the tie rod, or even put some of the weight of the car on it, i bet itll crank of |
