Questions about rim offset and boxing lower control arms.....

Yesterday i went and brought 2 rims,Nothing fancy,Just something to mount some slicks on.they look like the stock rims that would come on a chevy s-10. The rim size is 15 by 7. the rims that are usually on the car are 14 by 6,and when i put on the 15 by 7s,They don't seem to slide as far back on the wheel studs as the 14 by 6s. Is this because of the backspaceing of the 15 by 7s? Also,I read a post where someone said you could box your lower control arms by welding a plate to the bottom. What kind of metal shoud you use and could a exaust shop do that type of work? Thanks for the help.

i have my slicks mounted on a set of weld drag stars with 4.5" offset. use mild steel to box in the LCAs, i used 16ga mostly because thats the thickest steel my cousins shear could cut. i'd say about any one with a good welder could box them for you. i used stick machine to do mine. when i was done welding i needed new bushings. i pressed in a set of ES poly bushings.
