Founders Performance New Bumpsteer Kit 1982-1992 3rd Gen F-Body Adjustable Bump Steer Kit – Extreme Duty |
Re: Founders Performance New Bumpsteer Kit Looks like another great product from Founders. Well done. |
Re: Founders Performance New Bumpsteer Kit I made a custom bump steer kit on my 92, but I use the Founders rod ends in my kit. I really like those rod ends. 3 AutoX seasons and they have Zero play in them. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...2f3fcd6bee.jpg |
Re: Founders Performance New Bumpsteer Kit So the "spindle drilling", is it simply that, drill it a little bigger, or do threads need to be tapped in afterwards? I have several Founders parts on my third gen :) Thanks! Raf |
Re: Founders Performance New Bumpsteer Kit It's a through bolt so only drilling is required. |
Re: Founders Performance New Bumpsteer Kit I suspect there might be some misconception by people not familiar with this kind of product. Don't think that the spindle has to be drilled because Founders can't choose an appropriate bolt size to fit your spindle. The drilling process is to eliminate the taper in the spindle and transform it into a straight thru hole. Once you finish that the hole will be slightly oversized and you'll need the slightly larger bolt that Founders provides with the kit. :) |
Re: Founders Performance New Bumpsteer Kit About a month late... I've been leaning your products but I bought UMI's about a month ago when I needed them... |
Re: Founders Performance New Bumpsteer Kit I used a cheap vertical Mill to drill out/true up my spindle knuckle. In my case a cheap 5/8in reamer sealed the deal. typically a 5/8 bolt is gonna be about 0.620-0.623in So there is gonna be a very slight amount of play. I don't think Founders is Providing a oversize bolt for that kit. It's probably just a normal 5/8 bolt. That's fine, the tie rods will break long before you kill a grade 8 or 9 5/8 bolt. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...9a2a8fc4eb.png From my video, |

Re: Founders Performance New Bumpsteer Kit Sub 0.005in is basically irrelevant on a car. 100% ok, I'd even go as far as saying 0.020inwould be fine. Some 737 Max Wing Spars allow me to use a Hi-Loc that's about 0.002in smaller than a hole. and that's on a damn wing structure that has to survive millions of hours of flight over 25yrs. No one should worry about it |
