305,081's and a lT1 cam I have been reading through all of the threads and I have pulled together a 305, (1)081 cylinder head and a lT1 cam (191/196 B body replacement cam, and a 705 LT1 cam 201/201). I have a set of TPI manifolds with air tubes (required here) that have the 2.25 exhausts (I bought these several years ago). I plan on pocket porting the 081's. Will this rebuild of this engine be a good combo power-wise? I will be using a 3" cat and dual mufflers (2.5") |
Re: 305,081's and a lT1 cam Probably not much over stock even if well tuned. I wouldn't do it. A pair of headers will probably yield more power. |
Re: 305,081's and a lT1 cam well the cam will build more power for sure. but it'd be nice to just go ahead and change the heads to a better flowing head and put some emission legal headers on there. |

Re: 305,081's and a lT1 cam Wow, thanks for the advice. |

Re: 305,081's and a lT1 cam Would you use the 2.25 Tpi manifolds if you already had them? For the 305 engine: 187 heads (have) 97 LT1 cam 201/207 (have) 305 .030 over (have pistons and rings) Stock intake, tbi air inlet CAI run stock injectors with Caprice 350 fuel pump, but up pressure to 15-18psi? |
Re: 305,081's and a lT1 cam fast I said the cam will build more power and i would change the heads to a better flowing head. I didnt give an exact example I know but I did not mean run the 081's by any means. Can you please reword that otherwise everyone will assume im a complete idiot. (i know i am but anyway) |
Re: 305,081's and a lT1 cam Honestly I wouldn't even bother getting an LT1 cam after using the ZZ4 cam. It's not hard to tune in and it made a big SOTP improvement over the peanut cam. Just make sure you get a good stall and gears with it. |
