what backspacing/width 15 inch centerline rims do I order for my thirdgen?

I'm about to order either telstar 15X4 and 15 X8, or some weld drag lite rims...my question is...what backspacing do I use on the front and back, and with the weld drag lites, can I go with the 3.5inch width front rim? I want to have 165R15 front runners in the front, and a 255/60/15 in the back. This is on my firebird btw.

try the chassis/suspension/brakes forum?

i'd go 15x4 for the front. you have no choice in backspacing for that rim.

then for the rear, go 15x8 in either 4.5 BS or 5.5BS depending on how "tucked" you want your rims. I went 4.5BS with disc rears and they work well but stick out a bit more than i'd like. Although some people use 5.5 BS as well.

15 x 9 Weld Draglites, 5.5" bs. They tuck nicely but like mentioned above you can get away with a 4.5" bs and shouldn't stick out much. I do run a 5/32" spacer in the rears to clear the PBR calipers....if I didn't use the spacers then they'd sit in more and a 4.5" bs might be better.

15 x 3.5 Draglites up front...1.75" bs is the only one available with this size.

IrocZZ3 those wheels look great, ChrisFormula355, Best thing you can do is take off your wheels and do some proper measuring, it's not that hard to figure, then whatever you do don't let the wheels protrude from the wheel opening ANY, nothing looks worse on a Third-gen than wheels sticking out past the fenders!!

IROCZZ3,

Can you post a picture from a side view? I want to see how the stance looks.

Thanks

Ok question guys...I bought a set of centerline warrior rims. I have the 15X3.5's in the front, and maybe I'm being paranoid, but it just looks like they sit IN too much.......or maybe I'm just not used to seeing my frontend with such skinny tires? (165R15). I haven't put the rears on yet becuase they have yet to be delivered to me (buying from a friend), but now i"m hoping from what you guys said that they are 5.5 BS. They came off a 65 chevelle.

I kinda agree with you that they sit in slightly too much....maybe another inch of BS would do the trick. But with 3.5s up front I'm pretty sure there's no other backspacing choices so we're stuck with it. Maybe with a 15 x 4 you'll have more BS options. You'll get used to the new look real quick though.
