new thumpr cam questions

im thinking about putting one of the 510 lift thumpr cams in my 88 in a few months when the rebuild starts, and i was just making sure on a few things. since its after 87, the 88 blocks have the OE hydralic roller cam correct? what does OE stand im not to sure?

Original Equipment.

What do you plan on for an intake?

Why are you set on a Thumpr?

Re: new thumpr cam questions

because its a good performing hydraulic roller that sounds good and itseems like a good cam to go with. why any suggestions? also thinking about an XFI hydraulic roller also

Re: new thumpr cam questions

You would be better off with an XFI grind. Thumpr cams sound cool and love to spin high, but achieved by sacrificing all the "requirements" that EFI likes. The smaller versions could be tuned aggressivly enough to make them run, but the larger versions I would say are best left for carb platforms.

anybody have any good heads that work well with the xfi's? don't xfi's have a rough idle also?

Re: new thumpr cam questions

I have a 350 with the 280XFI and AFR 190's that flow a little more than the new 195 Eliminators. And a TPI :lmao:
Anyway, if you can hear this file this is what it sounds like. If you cant, let me know and I'll see if I can find a different format. I must be missing something today, only found this way to save it as a sound file.

Re: new thumpr cam questions

the thumpr would be a nightmare to try to tune in an efi application. I run a the big mutha thumpr on my carbureted motor and im still fighting an off idle, and part throttle stumble.

I like the xfi cams alot, they sound great, perform great, and are very tuner freindly.

Re: new thumpr cam questions

oo yea that xfi sounds good. i thought that xfi's just had a deeper sound too them. thats pretty much the exact sound im looking to get. but what i noticed was in the jegs description for the xfi's it says "Additionally, the XFI camshafts take advantage of the high velocity EFI-style cylinder head intake ports, intake manifolds and combustion chamber designs." now am i just being stupid or are there heads out there mayde for efi systems that have these different intake ports and combustion chamber designs or what.

I'd ignore the company propoganda when picking something out.
