Fuel Pressure Regulator Can you replace the fuel pressure regulator on a 1991 Pontiac Firebird 3.1 base model without having to replace the entire fuel rail? |
Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator Never mind, I have read on a bunch of sites and in the Haynes and Chilton's manuals that you cant. Looks like Im hitting up Pic-a-part and praying they have one that works better than mine. |
Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator Yes, you can replace the FPR without replacing the entire rail. RBob. |
Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator Really? Great! How would I go about doing that. Everything I have read says that you have to replace the entire rail because it is all one piece. |
Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator It has been a while, but basically, need to remove the plenum. I leave the cables attached to the TB and rotate the whole works forward. The FPR has the 'safety screws' (Torx) to attach it. Can either purchase a safety bit, or drill a hole in a regular bit, or knock off the little 'stubs' with a hammer and punch. Remove the FPR screws a little at a time. It may spew some fuel out if there is pressure. Remove the FPR can, diaphragm and spring. Install new spring and diaphragm, install screws. RBob. |
