Rough idle after warmed up, dies, bad smell So I have a 92 camaro rs 305 tbi auto, bought it a couple months ago and the guy said it dies beause it needs an iac valve. I replaced it and the problem was the same. It’ll fire right up, idles bad, when put into reverse or drive it dies unless given gas, when I gas it, it smells bad like maybe rotten eggs. Any help is greatly appreciated. New parts: distributor rotor and cap Iac valve egr valve map sensor coolant temp sensor (by thermostat) fuel pump fuel filter fuel pump strainer intake air temp sensor alternator thanks 🙂 |
Re: Rough idle after warmed up, dies, bad smell The smell could be a plugged catalytic converter. |

Re: Rough idle after warmed up, dies, bad smell Check engine light on ? Does this happen only when the engine is warmed up ? how old is the o2 sensor ? have you checked for leaking injectors ? you can check the spray pattern with a timing light. |
Re: Rough idle after warmed up, dies, bad smell Have you done this? https://www.thirdgen.org/tpimod2/ |

Re: Rough idle after warmed up, dies, bad smell I'm not familiar with the TBI setup, but I had an improperly adjusted TPS do exactly this on a TPI engine. It smelled bad at idle too. When I installed it had inadvertently set it to .054 volts, instead of the correct setting of .54 volts. |
Re: Rough idle after warmed up, dies, bad smell My 92 RS was doing the same thing. I replaced the iac and throttle position sensor, then reset the ecm. It seems to have helped a lot, but sometimes when I start it after the car has already got up to temp it will stall like it is vapor locked, I think its because the charcoal filter is clogged. |
