Rough idle after warmed up, dies, bad smell

So I have a 92 camaro rs 305 tbi auto, bought it a couple months ago and the guy said it dies beause it needs an iac valve. I replaced it and the problem was the same. It’ll fire right up, idles bad, when put into reverse or drive it dies unless given gas, when I gas it, it smells bad like maybe rotten eggs. Any help is greatly appreciated.
New parts:
distributor rotor and cap
Iac valve
egr valve
map sensor
coolant temp sensor (by thermostat)
fuel pump
fuel filter
fuel pump strainer
intake air temp sensor
alternator
thanks 🙂

The smell could be a plugged catalytic converter.

Check engine light on ?
Does this happen only when the engine is warmed up ?
how old is the o2 sensor ?
have you checked for leaking injectors ?
you can check the spray pattern with a timing light.

No check engine light, yes only when warm, probably old, and I haven’t checked them but they spray in a good cone shape

I'm not familiar with the TBI setup, but I had an improperly adjusted TPS do exactly this on a TPI engine. It smelled bad at idle too. When I installed it had inadvertently set it to .054 volts, instead of the correct setting of .54 volts.

My 92 RS was doing the same thing. I replaced the iac and throttle position sensor, then reset the ecm. It seems to have helped a lot, but sometimes when I start it after the car has already got up to temp it will stall like it is vapor locked, I think its because the charcoal filter is clogged.

Re: Rough idle after warmed up, dies, bad smell

This reply is 5 years late, I've since graduated high school and tech school haha. Anyways, shredthegnar solved it. It was the IAC valve causing it to run lean once the ECM entered closed-loop. This lean condition caused that nasty smell and caused it to stall. Hope this helps anyone else having issues with their TBI. If it stalls at idle when hot, the first thing I would check is the IAC.
