305 TPI intake on a 400 small block?

I'm getting an '88 IROC-Z with a 305 TPI. My friend's dad is wanting to sell a 400 small block complete with pistons, crank, and rods for $200. After having all those parts machined to freshen them up, I'd like to mount the TPI parts from my 305 on top of this engine. Would its air flow be enough or would it strangle an engine that size?

It'll strangle a 350 TPI, so yah it'll strangle a 400 as well. I'd say you need a SuperRam or MiniRam intake on that engine, but it depends on your choice of cam and heads.

Yeah, thats what I thought.

SuperRam isn't cheap, how much is Miniram?

About the same price: http://www.tpis.com/ has it.

yeah it'll work on a 400 but you need to do some updating to the tpi unit maybe new fuel ugrades, runner upgrades, throttle body a nd air foil. but i'd put a new air foil and throttle body on it and bigger injestors and regulator and it should be ok.

Future mods performer rpm air gap intake (polished) and 600 edlebrock carb, comp roller cam, and way better headsa 400 defintely in the works!

Yea, i agree it would probably strangle the engine, but a little porting work and some upgrades should tide you over until you can afford mini-ram or super-ram whichever you wish to get. Just don't expect your engine to breathe past 5500 rpms at most with the stock tpi, maybe even lower with a 400 (i'm not too familiar with 400's)

-K&N Airfilters

-2.77 Gears (not much to brag about but eh, its there)
-MSD 8.5 mm plug wires
-Problems every other day with the car (probably not a mod, but to me it sure makes a difference)

does anyone have a list of what parts are needed, to make a 305 tpi intake work on a 400? i would guess
22 lb fuel injectors, instead of the 19 lb
afpr
ported intake
large tube runners?
fuel pump?
52-58 mm throttle body
air foil
anything i forgot?
also does anyone know if a factory chip will run this? maybe a 350 chip?

Well, I had an Accel Superam base with SLP siamesed runners, ported plenum and a 48mm throttle body on mine last summer. It made lots of torque down low but by about 3500rpm it fell completely on it's face.....big time!
This year I am installing the complete Superam and a 58mm TB.
You will want at least 24lbs injectors also.
