WONT RUN AFTER TIMING WIRE IS RECONNECTED

OK so i have a 355 tpi i just did a swap in in a 94 s10 so today was the first real start up i unplug the tan timing wire set the timing at 6deg idles great i turn the ignition off plug the timing wire up then it wont start and when it does it pops back fires.........

Almost all the parts are new IAC, MAP, Knock, oil pressure,TPS checks out i just changed out the Ignition module thinking that might be it....any ideas????

whats been done to the motor HE262 cam 8 into 1 header flat top pistons nothing to radical...... Maybe a bad Map?

When the wire is connected the ESC controls the signal for the spark.
None of that other stuff really matters.
I would re-verify that your base is actually 6* BTDC, and probably try another ESC module.

Re: WONT RUN AFTER TIMING WIRE IS RECONNECTED

I have checked and rechecked the base timing the distributer was brand new i did get a chance to check it for a min when it not running right and the timing jumps from 6 to 30's then to 6 again back and forth as its tring to stop running but like i said before with the plug disconnected you would think theres nothing wrong with it...

The ESC might be intermittently trying to work. I would check the connections to it and swap to another ESC like I said. You didn't mention what year and type ECM you are using. It should be easy to swap if your ESC is on the firewall.

Oh yea sry about that its a 91 tpi the computer was from Arizona TPI im not sure what prom they use so its map i had it look at today and the guy said hes going to pull out his prom from his personal truck and see if it works tomorrow....

Oh sry its a 91 tpi painless harness the computer was done local here at AZ tpi stock computer but i dont know what prom they use so isnt the esc done though the ecm on these years?

What's the number on the outside of the ECM?
Sounds like it might be a 730.

Ser. 01227730 do you think its the ecm

Re: WONT RUN AFTER TIMING WIRE IS RECONNECTED

Well tried a new ecm and its still the same???

Re: WONT RUN AFTER TIMING WIRE IS RECONNECTED

I would check for vacuum leaks the map can cause the timing to Fluxuate. Also you never mentioned all the modification made to the engine, maybe this is a lean condition and you need to raise the fuel pressure or step up the injector size.

2 Attachment(s)
im running 30 injectors the everything has been programed but thats the same thing i was thinking was the map althought the one one it is brand new im going to take the ECM back and get a map and try it again i need to get this running by tomorrow im tring to take my truck to sand dunes.....

Have you checked the balancer for true 0* ? sometimes the outer ring slips. Just something else to check..

The ESC system has nothing to do with it starting erratically. That is the knock detection and spark retard system.

Odds are is that the pickup coil to ignition control module (ICM) are reversed. When this is done the spark advance goes in the wrong direction once the ECM takes over. Instead of advancing it retards.

Swap the leads then re-time with the EST/BYPASS open, then see if it starts and runs with it closed.

Can also make a quick check by opening the EST/BYPASS and setting the timing to 20* BTDC. Then re-connect the EST/BYPASS and see if the engine starts and runs. If so...

Can also check the timing now and see if it retarded. If so...

RBob.

The master fixes it again, Just should have done a chant and say Rbob, Rbob, Rbob and he will show up.

when your ready to dial that thing in look into the ebl p4 from dynamicefi.com awesome stuff.

Heck yea man head change will be next after the new year and get this thing dynoed...

Re: WONT RUN AFTER TIMING WIRE IS RECONNECTED

btw, with the 1p 305 knock board will not work too well because of the improper frequency of the 350 engine. Although if they didn't set a aggressive timing curve no knock will happen. rbob would be able to answer any q's on that or a search here may uncover more info. A buddy of mine in Australia who does rh drive corvette conversions and tpi swaps doesn't even used knock sensors. Have fun on the dunes and enjoy all that hard work man.
