Non lockup converter

I'm thinking of getting a non lockup torque converter. I know gas mileage will suffer, but this really isn't an issue because the car is only driven occasionally on the street. I also know heat is an issue, but I will add a transmission cooler. What other issues are involved. Will transmission mods be needed? I know that this has been discussed before, but search is down and I can't find the posts.
Thanks

I really do not see what the benefit would be, or the money spent on it. Alot of people are running lockups on the street, and strip. Now if you were going to do up a TH400, or a TH350, then I can see it. But, since you have a lockup trans, why not just get a new lockup converter with a more optimum stall for your combo?

Well, I have a carbed motor with all ECM functions gone. In fact, the ECM isn't even in the car. I'm going for optimum stall for my motor. I just wondered if my transmission (Bowtie Overdrives level 3) would be able to handle a non-lockup converter without modifications.

If you wish to do away with lock up, remove the front pump and install a non lock up pump valve. They are available in the aftermarket for about 30 bucks. You MUST install this valve or the trans will die.

The other option is to install a 4th gear only lock up kit. 1/2 hr install once the pan is down. It will only require a 12v ignition power lead run to it. Then it will lock up from fluid pressure when it shifts into 4th gear. I recommend it if going in a street car.
