355 sb+Stock T5=Fail? Yeah, putting a T5 in my 82 z28 with a 355 sb. How much HP can the T5 handle? What is a better alternative T56? |

Re: 355 sb+Stock T5=Fail? What kind of power will that 355 be making? Remember when 3rd gens started getting the 350 around '87 (iirc) they put the 700r4 behind those suckers cause they were worried about bone stock 350's breaking the t5. I wouldn't go with the t5, but that's just me. As far as an alternative to the t56 (which would be really nice), a tko 500 or richmond 5 speed are also viable options. |
Re: 355 sb+Stock T5=Fail? Personally, i have beaten a T5 to death, motors that went into the 11s, BUT i kept stock clutches and radials, so it would bust the tires loose and smoke the clutch before it killed the trans, a L98 with a 100 shot finally killed 3rd gear. |
Re: 355 sb+Stock T5=Fail? The motor should be making around 350 hp. I already have the T5 so there's no turning back now. I'm just using it until I have enough money to get a stronger tranny. |
Re: 355 sb+Stock T5=Fail? Just run it till you get the next trans, go with a T56 next, you wont regret it, except unlike me, you dont have a donor car, so get a T56 from a 98-02 camaro or firebird, that way you can leave in the stock bell housing and use an adapter plate that will be able to use the stock clutch setup, you just need a new cross member and possibly a shorter drive shaft. |
Re: 355 sb+Stock T5=Fail? alright thanks |
