3.23 gears, trying to spin two tires

Hey guys, i just pulled some of my rpo codes and noticed i dont have a lsd or a posi unit, instead i saw i have the 3.23 unit. I'd like to get either a locker or posi whichever is easier to install/cheaper.. i heard that the powertrax unit is really quick and simple to install and costs only about 300 dollars.. i'm not trying to build the fastest car out there just something decently fast and able to do some donuts in a dry parking lot :burnout:

so that being said which powertrax or similar unit should i purchase or should i just try to pull the rear out of a junked car at a yard? how would i do that and how difficult would that be without any real special tools?

thanks again

honestly if you've never done differential work before I would take it to a pro or have a buddy that's done it walk you through it.

I would get a LSD a "locker" or spool would wear your tires out too much

you dont need a posi to do donuts....3.23 but no Limited slip eh?

Id check craigslist for 4th gen rear ends. you can noramlly get them rather cheap. the 98-02 ones go for a little more because they have the better differential.

other than that. go to your local rearend shop and get it done properly and EATON posi the posi of choice by most on this site. The truetrac by detriot locker is nice also. A full locker is really for street/strip cars with more emphasis on strip.

hard to say. you can get one at a pick n pull but no way to tell how good it is. other than that craigslist. Now if you actually want to buy a new posi unit check with summit racing, jegs, streetside auto etc..

Before you purchase anything, you might consider reading the 10-Bolt FAQ:

thanks! one of the best mods i've ever seen on a forum haha.

and since you guys are here I was also wondering what you guess thought about a spool or minispool on a third gen would be like? The camaro is going to be a designated 5 speed summer car and i'm a good driver (cautious in the rain) and probably just going to be buying cheap tires(or parts hopefully not though) from the junkyard for it. I was also thinking about just going to some hot rod shop in mass and asking them to weld up the spider gears for a "lincoln locker" as i've heard them called, anyone know any horror stories about either

i noticed you said you dont need a posi to do donuts but wouldn't you just stall out half way around the spin and start spinning one tire?

I paid $150 for a used torsen LSD and 3.42 ring and pinion out of a 2001 camaro. I swapped it into my stock 10 bolt. When I had my open 3.23 diff I could do donuts no problem.

i have 3.27s and i can easily do burnouts... if u wanna to just spin just get a higher stall converter.....
