Look what I picked up yesterday!

Finally got my hands a better rear for my car. Stole it for $400 bucks off a guy locally.

Came off a 1999 LS1 Camaro with ~90K miles, GM 7.5 10 Bolt, Torsen Positive traction differential, 4:10 gears, PBR Brakes and Sway bar. Even has the ABS. Came with the eBrake lines too. Just have to buy a disk/disk proportional valve.

Going to spend a week cleaning it up, painting it, replacing brake pads and such. Then spend a weekend getting it installed. :) That'll be a couples weeks though, have my hands full with body work at the moment.

I didn't even have to pick it up, he dropped it off at my house for me, because he was going pass my area for his sons baseball game!

Yes sir. All you need are the 4th generation ebrake cables and the disk/disk proportional valve if you don't already have it.

Moser would be nice! I'm excited to get this one on. Can't wait to see how much of a difference it'll make. :)

bear in mind, this is still a stock 10 bolt, so no stronger than any of the 3rd gen 10 bolts with the 28 spline axles. they are a nice upgrade for guys who have relatively stock motors but stuck without posi or disc brakes, but a built setup can kill them.

Indeed. Building is always going to be better. But exponentially more expensive. :/

building a ten-bold really wont make it any stronger either... just buy you a little bit more time. You need to upgrade to a rear with larger diameter ring gear to see and real strength improvements

Yes direct fit but no you DO NOT HAVE TO change the prop valve. Lots of people swap & never change the prop valve.

dont know what a prop valve is,But I got a iroc with stock 5.7 and if the rearend which is a disk type, gose out there are alot more 4th gens out there right now than 3rd.also got a 86 bird with drum might like to have disk on if I come across a parts car.

I'm one of those people. I got a 3.23 Limited Slip out of a 1994 Camaro with Disc Brakes (Of Course). I love it! Never changed the Combo Valve. Braking is great!

Re: Look what I picked up yesterday!

Before you take out your old rear end, make sure that "T" connector on the differential for your brakes has the same threads as the one on the car. On the 82-84 Diffs, they may have a different size. Mine did and none of the part houses had that in stock. All of them said it was a week wait. I finally brought the old one to a place that makes the connector custom and that worked. you also have to get the E-Brake cables from a 90-92 Camaro. The other ones are too short. Again, those are special order from the parts house. I recommend that you have all of those parts BEFORE you begin.

But would it be even better with the correct valve--or an adjustable?

As usual, you're probably right, but it's not high on my list of prioritys right now. Might not even keep that rear end actually. Thinking of a custom 9".

Re: Look what I picked up yesterday!

I am glad James convinced me to get the J65 valve for my setup. Braking is night and day from the old valve. Night and day.
I'd never recommend not replacing it after seeing the difference myself.

Only got to take it down the road for about 5mins. It's getting some paint work done today so it's been getting prep'd for that. Huge difference in acceleration! Love it!
