3.1 v6 what can I remove??? Hi, I am new to this, I just bought a clunker 92 camaro v6 auto, and I'm planning on using the motor and tranny in a '58 nash metropolitan. I want to use all the fuel injection, but I want to strip as much of the smog and ugly bs stuff that I can, but I'm not that familiar with fuel injection or smog. I'm sure I can ditch the smog pump, but what about stuff like egr valve? does the computer need this to run correctly? Basically all I want is the bare bones componets that the system needs to run correctly. Any ideas?? I appreciate anyones help. Tom |
Re: 3.1 v6 what can I remove??? If the ECM remains stock then the EGR should stay. However, you will need to also get a VATs delete box, as the ECM needs that before it will fire the injectors. {edit: can also use the VATs system that is in the '92} So your best bet is to get what is required to burn a PROM and make some changes to the calibration. Turn off VATs, set the EGR enable temperature high, set the AIR system enable temperature high, disable the cat-con protection (set the trip points high), and burn a chip. See moates.net for a Burn2, G1 adapter, and a couple of chips. If you retain the serpentine set up and dump the smog pump (AIR system), look for an 88 - 89 camaro/firebird with an auto. In one or both of those years the auto equiped cars didn't use a smog pump. They have an idler assembly in place on it. Get one of those and install it. Note that a different belt is required. The same one that is on that car is the proper one. The idler prevents the long section of belt from flapping around. RBob. |
