v8 t5 will a v8 t5 work in v6 87 bird and if so what clutch do i get |
Re: v8 t5 No it won't |
Re: v8 t5 Yes, actually, it will. You would need to get a clutch from an Astro van, or swap out the input shaft for one from a V6 (in which case it's better to get a V6 trans anyways). But, then, there is the chance of having mismatched speedometer gears, and finding the gears can be a pain. Especially for an electronic speedometer. |

Re: v8 t5 Differences between the V6 and V8 T5s are the bellhousing, input shaft, and in some cases, the stuff attached to the rear of the trans (torque arm mount, etc). We won't go into the NWC vs WC T5 debate... |
Re: v8 t5 haha yeah please dont, most people wont even sell the non wc's. in most cases the v8 t5s are more expensive anyways so just find a v6 wc t5 |
Re: v8 t5 Speedo gears for the VSS can be found cheaply on Ebay, http://allstategear.com or http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...n_______va.htm You will need to change the bellhousing and clutch fork. I'm assuming you are reusing your original pressure plate and flywheel. The clutch disc may be hard to find due to the different spline count of the V8 input shaft. I know there is a disc that can be used to put a V6 T5 behind a V8 cause I'm running one now. I'm not sure if there is a smaller diameter disc that will fit the V6 pressure plate and the 26 spline input shaft of the V8 T5 though. |
Re: v8 t5 350 bucks for a v6 t5 from hawks |
Re: v8 t5 What are the differences in flywheels between the V6 and V8 engines? If the flywheels are the same, he should be able to use the whole V8 clutch-pack, right? I'm the guy selling this transmission to him. I agree that the World-Class T5 would be a better way to go. His money, though. I got this transmission cause the seller lied to me about it being a World-Class T5...when I didn't know any better. He will need the V6 bellhousing. |
Re: v8 t5 the v6 and v8 clutchs are diffrent sizes |
Re: v8 t5 What about the flywheels? Can a V8 flywheel fit and work in place of a V6 flywheel? |
Re: v8 t5 While the flywheels are the same size I think, the pressure plates and clutches are different sizes. The clutch is not such a big deal. However, because of the different diameters between a V8 pressure plate and a V6 one, the bolt holes are in different locations on the flywheel. This means the flywheel and pressure plate have to match. |
Re: v8 t5 If the V8 flywheel will work and fit, then I can send him the flywheel, too. Then he'd just need to get V8 clutch-packs... |
Re: v8 t5 And the bellhousing... |
Re: v8 t5 Never mind. The flywheels are different diameters. The V6 flywheel has 148 teeth while the V8 flywheel has 153 teeth. So you'll have to use a V6 flywheel and pressure plate. The clutch disc would have to have 26 splines and be right around 9 1/8" in diameter. Plus or minus 1/8" shouldn't make much difference, but a V8 clutch is 10.5" in diameter. |
Re: v8 t5 you guys are really trying to make this harder than it needs to be...dont try to use v8 stuff it doesnt work. get a v6 tranny, call around they arent that hard to come across especially here around indiana kentucky and tennesse |

Re: v8 t5 I agree that the guy should go find a World Class T5, from behind a V6, in a junkyard. That way he could hopefully pluck the pedals, slave cylinder, and master cylinder. That's how I did it, and it still seems the best way... But...I'm not gonna say "No" if he wants to buy mine. |
Re: v8 t5 actually I found that you can do the swap you need a clutch disc from a 97 s10 4 cylinder, use the pressure plate, tob, and fork from a v6 and then you gotta find the pilot bearing with the correct id and od. the onlt problem is the money for all that stuff |
Re: v8 t5 LOL! Yeah...you're talking like four different clutch kits for one set of usable parts. NOT FUN. |
Re: v8 t5 that is why budget flies right out the window with the uninformed and then our hobby gets a bad rap |
Re: v8 t5 Ugh...YEEEAAH. What ever happened to Natural Selection? Oh, I just used the zip code you gave me on Car-Part.com, and found a 3.4L V6 with a 5-speed out of a '94 Camaro for $650. At a place called Lambert Auto Salvage in Booneville...about 67 miles away from you...it says. |

Re: v8 t5 :yup: thankfully i found a trans with bell and fork shipped to me for 250.00 big kudos to cm91rs1 |
Re: v8 t5 AWESOME! Great to hear! |
